Flood swept away bridge pier, cars cannot enter Nam Giai

(Baonghean.vn)- The Chau Kim commune government (Que Phong) has sent forces to block, warn and prohibit cars from passing through the damaged bridge on the Chau Kim - Nam Giai route (Que Phong).

The floods not only caused landslides on many roads in Que Phong commune and district, but also severely damaged a number of important bridges, including the spillway bridge at the beginning of National Highway 16 on the route from Chau Kim commune to Nam Giai commune. As a result, all cars will not be able to enter or exit Nam Giai commune.

Mr. Luong Van Son - Chairman of Chau Kim Commune People's Committee said: "After surveying after the flood, yesterday afternoon we made warning signs and sent forces to block cars from passing through the spillway area on Chau Kim - Nam Giai road according to the direction of Que Phong District People's Committee to ensure the safety of life and property of traffic participants".

According to observations, the Muon spillway bridge at Km 0 + 50 (built nearly 10 years ago) has been eroded by floods, with 1/3 of the concrete bridge abutments on both sides being washed away by the flood, weakening the bridge and putting it at risk of collapsing if a car passes through. Currently, only motorbikes and pedestrians are allowed to pass through this spillway.

"This afternoon (October 12), district leaders and Chau Kim commune authorities will survey to build a temporary bypass for people to travel and plan to build a new bridge to replace it," said Mr. Son.

In addition, the 25 km Chau Kim - Nam Giai road under repair was also severely damaged by floods at Km1+300. It is known that this is the only road connecting Nam Giai commune with other areas in the district.
