16th Artillery Brigade celebrates 50th anniversary

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of April 13, Artillery Brigade 16, Military Region 4 held a ceremony to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Brigade's founding (April 13, 1966 - April 13, 2016).

Attending the ceremony were Major General Tran Tien Dung - Deputy Political Commissar of Military Region 4; Major General Do Tat Chuan - Commander of the Artillery Corps; leaders of agencies and units of the Ministry, Military Region, departments and branches of Nghe An province, local Party committees and authorities where the unit was and is stationed, and generations of officers and soldiers of the Brigade through the periods.

50 years ago, in the Thong Temple area, Lung Sau Village, Dai Dinh Commune, Tam Duong District, Phu Tho Province, the PB16 Regiment was established under Decision No. 29/QD-QP of the Ministry of National Defense.

During the resistance war against America to save the country, generations of cadres and soldiers of the Brigade overcame countless hardships and challenges, achieving many resounding victories.

The Regiment fought 155 large and small battles, both in independent operations and combined arms operations; annihilated 5,840 enemies, destroyed 13 command posts, more than 350 planes, warships, vehicles, artillery and tens of thousands of tons of bombs, ammunition and other war vehicles of the US and puppets, contributing to the liberation of the South, reunification of the country and fulfilling its noble international duty.

Promoting the tradition of "Strictly obeying orders, practicing well, shooting well, being brave and resilient, coordinating closely, and completing tasks excellently" of the unit and the tradition of "Brass feet, iron shoulders, fighting well, shooting accurately" of the heroic artillery, officers and soldiers of the Brigade always strive to rise up, overcome all difficulties and challenges, build the unit in a revolutionary, disciplined, elite, and gradually modern direction, with the core tasks of training, combat readiness, building the VMTD unit, affirming the position and stature of a major ground firepower Brigade of the heroic Military Region 4.

The Chief of the Military Region Command and the Military Region Political Department visited the teaching aid model at the traditional camp.

With its achievements, the Brigade was awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces in the resistance war against the US to save the country; the Military Exploit Medal, the Third Class Fatherland Protection Medal; excellent training unit for many consecutive years and many other forms of commendation for the collective and individuals of the unit.
