Tran Thi Tung (36 years old, residing in La Khe ward, Ha Dong district, Hanoi) is a freelancer. With the aim of getting a lot of money, Tung told her acquaintances that she was a bank officer, working in the project appraisal department, capable of buying real estate projects of enterprises at original price and other assets auctioned by the bank.

Believing what Tung said was true, some victims gave Tung money to buy for them and were robbed of tens of billions of dong by this female monster. Late in the afternoon of May 10, the Hanoi People's Court concluded the trial of this case.

According to the indictment of the Hanoi People's Procuracy, Tung was from Thanh Hoa. At the age of 5, Tung suffered from a terminal illness that was very dangerous to his life. Thanks to the talent and virtue of a doctor, Ms. Ngoc's husband (living in Nam Tu Liem district, Hanoi), who was working in Thanh Hoa at that time, Tung was lucky to overcome the serious illness. Since then, Tung's family has considered Ms. Ngoc's husband as a benefactor. When he went to Hanoi to study, Tung often visited his benefactor's family like a family member.

In 2010, Tung told Ms. Ngoc that he was a project appraiser at a bank, so he was able to buy many real estate properties at the original price of the business or assets foreclosed by the bank. At that time, Ms. Ngoc wanted to invest in real estate, so she asked Tung for help.

Tung enthusiastically accepted the benefactor's request. To express his "thanks" to the benefactor's family, after the introduction, Tung directly took Ms. Ngoc to a housing project in Hoai Duc district, Hanoi and randomly pointed to a plot of land of about 200 square meters, then offered a price of 35 million VND per square meter. Seeing that the price was reasonable, Ms. Ngoc gave Tung 2.2 billion VND to help with the procedures to transfer this plot of land.

Receiving money from Ms. Ngoc, Tung promised to complete the procedures with the investor after three months. After the deadline, he did not receive the land title, and when Ms. Nhoc asked, Tung repeatedly made excuses to delay. Fearing that his fraud would be exposed, Tung later enticed Ms. Ngoc to transfer the money from buying the land in Hoai Duc district to buying a house foreclosed by a bank in Tay Ho district for 14.5 billion VND. Trusting Tung, Ms. Ngoc initially agreed and transferred the full amount to Tung to buy the villa near West Lake, after deducting the 2.2 billion VND Ms. Ngoc had given him earlier.

While waiting to receive the house for sale from the bank in Tay Ho district, Tung knew that Ms. Ngoc was in Ho Chi Minh City for work, so he lied again that the bank was in the process of foreclosing a piece of land in District 1 and took Ms. Ngoc to see it. Seeing that Ms. Ngoc liked this piece of land, Tung said that this was a priority plot of land for him and persuaded Ms. Ngoc to buy it early for a high profit. Once again, Ms. Ngoc trusted him and transferred 5 billion VND to Tung in the hope of owning this land soon.

In addition to the act of defrauding Ms. Ngoc of 19.5 billion VND as above, in 2014, Tung also defrauded and appropriated 600 million VND from another acquaintance, Mr. Trong, in Hanoi, when he asked Tung to help him get a job at a state agency.

At the trial, the defendant Tung admitted to the above crime. The panel of judges found Tung’s crime to be particularly serious, so they sentenced him to life in prison for fraud and appropriation of property. In addition to the prison sentence, the panel of judges also ordered the defendant Tung to compensate the victims for the entire amount of money he had appropriated.
