(Baonghean.vn) - Despite being related, Thach still colluded with other people to deceive and persuade her cousin to go to China to get married. After 9 years of being sold, the victim returned to Vietnam and accused her brother of selling her.

On February 16, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened the first instance trial of the defendants Dau Thi Hoan (born 1971), Moong Van Thach (born 1977), both residing in Chieu Luu commune, Ky Son district, and Loc Thi May (born 1975), residing in Huu Kiem commune, Ky Son district, for the crime of Human Trafficking.

The indictment shows that around July 2010, during a meeting with May, Hoan asked about bringing people to China to marry. May confirmed that she could help and promised to split the money if she found the person.

Greedy, Hoan met Thach to discuss finding someone to marry in China. After discussing, Thach went to the house of O.TH (born in 1992, residing in Chieu Luu commune), a cousin, to trick her into working for a company in Quang Ninh. However, knowing that her cousin did not know anyone in this province, Ms. H. did not agree at first.

Then, Thach took Hoan to convince his cousin to marry a Chinese man. This time, Ms. H. agreed. Not long after, Hoan handed Ms. H. over to Loc Thi May and received 1 million VND in advance.

After taking the victim to China through a broker, May sold Ms. H. to a Chinese man to marry for 30,000 yuan, equivalent to 90 million VND. In this case, May profited 29 million, Hoan profited 31 million, and Thach pocketed 10 million. Thach gave the remaining 20 million to Ms. H.'s parents.

Speaking of the victim, after more than 9 years of being sold, Ms. H. decided to flee back to Vietnam in 2019. In July 2022, Ms. H. wrote a complaint to the police. Knowing that her human trafficking was exposed, Moong Van Thach turned himself in; while Hoan and May were arrested by the police.

At the trial, the defendants admitted their crimes. Defendants Thach and Hoan claimed that the victim knew about going to China to get married. Meanwhile, the victim affirmed that the defendants only said they were going to work for the company, not going to China to get married.

Then, the defendants presented their difficult circumstances and lack of legal knowledge to ask the court to reduce their sentences.

The panel of judges determined that the defendants’ actions were dangerous to society. After considering the role of each defendant, the court sentenced Dau Thi Hoan to 6 years in prison, Loc Thi May to 5 years in prison, and Moong Van Thach to 4 years in prison for human trafficking.
