Fraudulently selling masks, taking 350 million VND to gamble
Trusting Bac’s promise to “immediately deliver the masks upon receiving the money,” Ms. Ha transferred 350 million VND to Bac. After receiving the money, Bac withdrew all of the money from ATMs and then fled.
On February 18, the Cau Giay District Police, Hanoi, are completing the file to prosecute Nguyen Van Bac (born in 1989, in Mau A town, Van Yen district, Yen Bai province) for fraud and property appropriation.

According to investigation documents, realizing that people's need to buy medical masks to prevent the Covid-19 epidemic was very large and the price of masks was high, Nguyen Van Bac had the intention of fraud.
Bac posted on social media an advertisement that he had a large supply of medical masks and that anyone in need could buy as many as they wanted. Knowing about Bac's advertisement online, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ha, in Nghia Tan Ward, Cau Giay District, contacted Nguyen Van Bac to ask to buy masks.
In the first transaction, Ms. Ha was delivered 1 box of masks by Bac as promised. Seeing that the initial business was favorable, Ms. Ha confidently ordered 30 more boxes of masks from Bac and the subject asked Ms. Ha to transfer 350 million VND in advance.
Trusting Bac’s promise that “the masks would be delivered immediately upon receiving the money,” Ms. Ha transferred the entire amount to Bac as requested. After receiving the money from Ms. Ha, Bac withdrew all the money from ATMs and then fled.
The entire amount was used by Bac for gambling. After waiting too long without receiving the goods, and trying to contact Bac but the phone was unreachable, Ms. Ha suspected that she had been scammed, so she went to the police to report.
After receiving the complaint from the victim, Nghia Tan Ward Police coordinated with the Criminal Police Team, Cau Giay District Police to quickly investigate, verify, and arrest the subject for strict handling according to the provisions of the law.
