Fraudulently selling lottery numbers on Facebook, appropriating hundreds of millions of dong
(Baonghean.vn) - A group of people created a fake Facebook page, introducing themselves as employees, deputy directors, and directors of the Northern Lottery Company, with the ability to know and provide accurate lottery numbers, then defrauded and appropriated money from gullible people.
On the afternoon of February 2, the Nghi Loc District Police Department announced that the unit had just coordinated with Hue City Police to successfully crack Project 118L, arresting a group of subjects in Hue City who used fake Facebook to defraud, appropriate money, gamble, and sell counterfeit money.

The group of arrested subjects includes 16 subjects, of which 5 subjects are related to the fraud case in which the victim was in Nghi Loc district (Nghe An), including: Le Van Vinh Tu (born 2002), Nguyen Phuc (born 1995), Le Nhat Ron (born 1995), Le Tan Phi (also known as Bon) (born 2002), all residing in An Hoa ward; Vo Huy Hieu (born 2001), residing near Trieu Tay bridge, Hue city.
These 5 subjects created fake Facebook accounts, claiming to be employees, deputy directors, and directors of the Northern Lottery Company, located at No. 1, Tang Bat Ho Street, Hanoi.
Through Facebook, these subjects boasted to acquaintances on social networks that they could know in advance and provide accurate and reputable lottery numbers. The subjects used tricks, having a person lure the victim to top up a scratch card via Facebook messages, calling it a fee to get lottery numbers, lottery numbers or three-digit numbers.
When the victim finished recharging, other subjects continued to introduce themselves as deputy directors, directors and asked the victim to recharge cards with large amounts of money to complete the settlement documents. After receiving the scratch cards, the subjects used an individual's account on doithe.vn to convert them into money and then appropriated them.
From the end of December 2017 to January 4, 2018, these 5 subjects defrauded and appropriated 375 million VND from Ms. BTTr (born in 1995, residing in Nghi Quang commune, Nghi Loc district).
The task force has transferred Nguyen Phuc and Le Nhat Ron to the Nghi Loc District Police Department for further investigation and clarification of the case. The three subjects including Tu, Hieu, and Phi are still in school so they were handed over to their families for management and education. The other 11 subjects organized gambling and sold counterfeit money via Facebook.
