According to official Sadiq Madloul, "Today we repelled ISIS terrorists from the town of Jurf al-Sakhar and are now flying the Iraqi flag over government buildings."

Gaining complete control of the town could help Iraqi authorities prevent IS from advancing closer to the capital Baghdad, maintain their links with strongholds in the western province of Anbar, and penetrate the south, where the majority of the population is Shi'ite Muslim.
