NATO's rapid reaction force conducts its first exercises near Russia.

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) yesterday, June 9th, held its first full-scale exercise in Poland for its newly formed rapid reaction force, aimed at strengthening security on the alliance's eastern coast.

Approximately 2,100 soldiers from nine NATO member countries participating in the Joint Rapid Reaction Force (VJTF) are taking part in the "Noble Jump 2" exercise at the Zagan training ground in northwestern Poland.AFPReport the news.

"This is the first time the full force of the VJTF has been deployed," said Polish Colonel Marek Pietrzak, NATO spokesman. "Noble Jump 2" is expected to last until June 19.

NATO decided to establish the VJTF last year. The alliance also conducted a series of exercises on its eastern coast to respond to Russia's increased military presence in the Baltic Sea and airspace in the region.

The first VJTF exercise took place in April in the Czech Republic and the Netherlands. NATO also plans to deploy approximately 25,000 troops for exercises in Italy, Portugal, and Spain in October and November.
