The US Army is researching and developing a new type of clothing that can absorb radar waves, to help soldiers "hide" more easily on the battlefield.Task and PurposeMay 14 news.
"While many types of radar absorbent materials (RAM) for vehicles, weapons and bunkers have been developed, infantry soldiers still lack a lightweight uniform that reduces the possibility of being detected by modern ground and battlefield surveillance radars (GSR)," the US military representative said.
The US Army wants the new uniform to be made from materials that can absorb Ku and X-band radar waves, which are capable of detecting objects from a distance of up to 12 km. In addition, the fabric used to make this uniform must be durable, elastic and breathable. "It must withstand temperatures from -34 to 50 degrees Celsius in humid climates," the US Army representative emphasized.
The US military's move comes as the Russian Ministry of Defense recently announced the successful development of a similar suit that not only makes soldiers invisible to radar but also protects them from all types of biological pathogens.
