Vietnam's decision to skip Russia's AK rifle and choose Israel's GalilACE assault rifle as the new standard rifle for its infantry is considered a breakthrough.

It can be said that, right after the traditional major weapons supplier Russia, the name Israel comes right after. Vietnam has received a lot of help from Israel in modernizing its weapons. The friendly country has provided many types of weapons from modern Spyder medium-range air defense missiles, Extra precision-guided rocket artillery, T-55M3 tanks, Matador anti-tank missiles, to personal weapons.

Vietnam chose Galil ACE 31 and ACE 32 as the new standard assault rifle for the army from the modernized variant of the famous Galil rifle, which is trusted by 27 countries. Galil is a design based on the Finnish RK 62 rifle, which is a modified and improved design of the AK 47, so Galil still inherits the strengths of the AK series such as easy to manufacture, extremely high durability, strong firepower and can operate even in dusty or wet environments.

In addition, the modern version Galil ACE 31, 32 also has strong improvements, such as modern design to be able to attach additional combat accessories when necessary, lighter weight than AK-47, foldable stock, and better ballistics. The fact that Galil ACE has been produced domestically helps us to be self-sufficient in the supply of weapons as well as repair accessories. In addition, choosing the GalilACE 31, 32 version to use the same 30-round 7.62x39mm ammunition box of AK-47 and AKM currently in service is an advantage to synchronize personal weapons, this is a vital factor when war breaks out.

In addition to the Galil ACE assault rifles equipped for the army, Vietnamese sniper units also use the Galatz and SR 99 sniper rifles, which are considered quite modern sniper rifles, and have performed well in combat and are trusted by other countries. Vietnam is also using two types of medium machine guns also originating from Israel: the Negev medium machine gun equipped for the marines, and the NG7 equipped for the military shooting competition team. These are all guns with a very modern new design, light weight, and can use many different types of magazines from 30 to 250 rounds.
