Nine representatives have already qualified for the round of 16, meaning the remaining seven spots will be a fierce competition between 13 teams.

Wolfsburg, Man Utd, PSV Eindhoven, Roma, Leverkusen, BATE Borisov, Olympiacos, Arsenal, Porto, Chelsea, Dynamo Kiev, Gent and Valencia are the 13 teams competing for the remaining seven tickets to the next round.

Dinamo Zagreb, Maccabi Tel-Aviv and Lyon are the teams that are certain to finish bottom of the table.

The remaining seven tickets to the round of 16 will be determined in two midweek matches this week.

The match series takes place at 2:45 am on December 9 (Hanoi time)

Table A:Real Madrid (13 points, already qualified) - Shakhtar Donetsk (three points), PSG (10 points, already qualified) - Malmo FF (three points).

Shakhtar Donetsk (orange and black striped shirts) only need a draw to qualify for the Europa League.

Real are top of the group while PSG are already second. The final round of matches in Group A is all about deciding who will qualify for the Europa League. Shakhtar Donetsk will visit PSG while Malmo will play at Real Madrid's Bernabeu. The Ukrainian team has the advantage of being third thanks to a better head-to-head record.

Group B: PSV Eindhoven (seven points) - CSKA Moscow (four points), Wolfsburg (nine points) - Man Utd (eight points).

Man Utd could be eliminated if they lose in Germany.

Wolfsburg will go through if they draw at home to Man Utd and the Germans will also be assured of top spot if they win. Man Utd will go through and win the group with a win. PSV will go through if they win. If the Dutch team draws and Man Utd lose, they will still qualify on the basis of their better head-to-head record. If PSV wins and Wolfsburg and Man Utd draw, PSV and Wolfsburg will go through. But then top spot will have to be decided on goal difference because the two teams have equal head-to-head records. CSKA Moscow will secure a Europa League spot on the basis of their head-to-head record if they beat PSV.

Table C:Benfica (10 points, already qualified) - Atletico Madrid (10 points, already qualified), Galatasaray (four points) - Astana (three points).

Astana (yellow shirt) must beat Galatasaray if they want to finish third.

Benfica and Atletico have already progressed, with the Portuguese side going top of the group with a win or draw. Astana must demolish Galatasaray's Turk Telekom Arena fortress with a win if they are to snatch third place from their rivals.

Table D:Man City (nine points, already qualified) - Borussia Monchengladbach (five points), Sevilla (three points) - Juventus (11 points, already qualified).

Man City (blue shirt) can only get the top spot if they win and Juventus lose.

Juventus will only lose top spot if they lose and Man City win. Sevilla have a better head-to-head record than Gladbach so if they win and the Germans don't, the Europa League spot is theirs.

The match series takes place at 2:45 am on December 10 (Hanoi time)

Table E:Bayer Leverkusen (five points) - Barcelona (13 points, already qualified), Roma (five points) - BATE Borisov (four points).

Roma have the biggest advantage in the race for second place in Group E.

Barca are already top. Roma have a better head-to-head record than Leverkusen and will progress to the knockout stages if they beat BATE Borisov. Leverkusen need to win, and hope their Italian opponents don't do the same, to secure second place. A draw would see the Germans through if Roma lose. BATE Borisov would finish second if they win and Leverkusen don't. If the Belarussians beat Roma and Leverkusen beat Barca, BATE Borisov would finish third.

Group F:Olympiacos (nine points) - Arsenal (six points), Dinamo Zagreb (three points) - Bayern Munich (12 points, already advanced).

Arsenal have a very slim chance of advancing.

Bayern are already top of the group. Olympiacos beat Arsenal 3-2 in the first leg. Arsene Wenger's team will therefore need to win by at least one goal in the decisive match in Greece, except for the 1-0 and 2-1 results, to have a better head-to-head record, as the Champions League applies the away goals rule. If they win 3-2, Arsenal will still advance on goal difference. Dinamo Zagreb are already bottom of the group.

Group G:Chelsea (10 points) - Porto (10 points), Dynamo Kiev (eight points) - Maccabi Tel-Aviv (0 points).

Victory will help Chelsea secure top spot in the group.

Porto beat Chelsea 2-1 in the first leg so they only need a draw if Dynamo Kiev don't win to finish top. Chelsea need to beat Porto to top their group. Dynamo Kiev will go through with a win. If that happens, and Chelsea and Porto end in a draw, Kiev will finish top, Chelsea second and Porto third based on goal difference between the two teams. Maccabi are certain to finish bottom, but if they beat Dynamo Kiev they will deny the Ukrainians a place in the next round.

Table H:Gent (seven points) - Zenit (15 points, already qualified), Valencia (six points) - Lyon (one point).

Zenit (blue shirt) and Lyon show two completely opposite faces.

Zenit are already assured of top spot in the group. If they win and Valencia don’t, the Russians will set a record for the highest points difference between them and the second-placed team (at least 11 points). Gent will go through if they win, or Valencia can’t win (Gent have a better head-to-head record). So Valencia have to win and hope their rivals can’t do the same to go through. Lyon are already guaranteed to finish bottom.
