The surprising reason why young people like Den Vau
Not sexy (in the entertainment industry's criteria, this is definitely a huge flaw), the music is too gentle, somewhat strange, lacking the brash personality that young people prefer... but Den Vau is still very popular with young people.

Portrait of Den Vau. |
If you pay close attention, Den's most famous songs are not lacking in the spirit of encouraging young people to go home, to the countryside, to return to themselves. In the past, the catchphrase of young people living in the city was a rap part of Den: "If I'm too tired of living on top of each other in the city/ At worst, I'll go back to the countryside/ I'll raise fish and grow vegetables."
In a talk about underground music, Do Minh Huy (Hanoi) shared about "listening to "Going home" at least fifty times a day": "As someone who has left home to work in the city, I find strong empathy in this song. Especially during the time before Tet, I just want to quickly go home, enjoy peaceful time with my loved ones. Although Den sings with a Southern accent, the tempo is fast and difficult to separate the lyrics, but I only need to listen to it two or three times to know it by heart. It seems like he speaks for me: "Like every other child, when I grow up, I want to go far away forever/ Home is still there, waiting for the children who are going out/ Only when I go out do I realize that there is no place like home/"...

Audience member Tuan Adam commented: “Among a series of top hits all about love, Den Vau is a completely different type. Den's music sounds very old at first, if not taking each other away (to escape from a busy, bustling life), then it is also encouraging people to accept the truth that "that's life, there is no joy that doesn't pass", and now go home. "Happiness, go home/ Loneliness, go home/ Success, go home/ Failure, go home/ Too tired, go home/ Confused, go home/ Unsteady, go home/ Nothing to do, then go home"... No one at this time can do better than Den in encouraging young people to live slower, calmer and spend more time looking inside themselves".

The shows were packed with fans. |
Den's long-lasting success is probably largely related to his "upbeat" attitude towards life. I think this enlightenment process began with his 7-year history as an employee of the Ha Long Bay Management Board, with his main job being to clean the Bay's environment "working on the beach during the day, on the boat at night", and the rest of the time just staring at himself. Remembering those days, Den affirmed: "Those were wonderful days. "Jumping into life to earn a living" from an early age gave me many valuable life experiences. Perhaps thanks to those days, Den is who he is today. I was able to see, hear and find beautiful things from the most ordinary things. It was thanks to those days that I found my own musical path."

This story reminds people of Nguyen Huy Thiep and his 10 years of teaching in the highlands, “just facing the mountain”. People need time to understand themselves, before writing things that can touch others.
Den Vau's family is still in Ha Long, but he has moved to Ho Chi Minh City to start a career. Although he is famous and has many shows, Den is still renting a house to live in./.
