The reason why the Russian Academy Professor returned to Vietnam to become the director of the high-tech institute
At the age of 51, with nearly 100 works published in international journals, Professor Nguyen Quoc Sy decided to return to his homeland.
In a busy work schedule in Vietnam,Professor Nguyen Quoc Sy, Head of the Plasma Energy Department, Russian National Power Engineering University, Director of the Plasma Physics Laboratory, still spent time working with reporters, patiently answering even repetitive questions and always smiling.
He is about to return to work full-time on the new project as aDirector of Vin Hi-Tech High Technology Research Institute, Vingroup Corporation.
At Vin Hi-Tech, Professor Sy is responsible for attracting domestic and foreign scientists to solve high technologies from new energy; new materials; biotechnology, environment; mechatronics... These are all fields he has researched in the past 30 years, with many achievements.
According to him, vPhysics is the whole world. Almost all high-tech technologies are based on the achievements of physics. From biotechnology, medicine, physics is the basic science and technology to advance civilization. Just looking at a phone, you can see that it is a combination of all the sciences from material technology, electronics, information technology... Therefore, combination is also the step that Mr. Sy chose.

Brainstorming Strategy
Vin Hi-Tech launched on the afternoon of August 21, but Professor Sy said the constructionThe system of experts and senior scientific and technological staff has been prepared by him for a long time. The initial work was planned by key staff 4 years ago.
He and his research team embarked onconservation and restoration program of My Son Sanctuary. Here, some temples and towers were destroyed partly due to time, war, and improper human care, so they were prone torapid delivery tube. The scientist's task is to restore the same material without making it new. Scientists go from nResearch brick structure to create technology similar to Cham people.
Next isresearch and create adhesives for the temples of My Son Sanctuary. Here the adhesive is not ordinary mortar, not soot with molasses of the ancient Vietnamese. There are no documents about this adhesive, but the task is to find an adhesive like that of the Cham people.
"The scientific group has made great efforts because we set ourselves and saw this as an important issue for the country. We have had initial success in the technology of making bricks and adhesives. We will have technological breakthroughs to solve this problem," said Professor Sy.
The goal ofThe Institute is a gathering place for high-level scientists and technologists to work and solve specific problems in Vietnam. Among them are mainly foreign experts, combined with some local experts in Vietnam to build groups. The initial construction of the experimental model has shown effectiveness.
Reason for return
IntentThe desire to return to work in the country dates back to the years when Mr. Sy was studying and researching in the laboratory and later working with scientists. But this desire was not enough for him to return to work in the country, because to contribute, he also needed an environment. In addition to economic conditions,is cultural style, respect for discipline and responsibility.
The proof is that for over 10 years, he has frequently traveled between Vietnam and Russia to carry out many domestic projects, but the results achieved are very low.compared to the effort put in. That failure showed him that he had to organize a new environment. That was the working conditions, the ability to be creative, the conditions for developing thinking.
He knew he couldn't do it alone until he met her.Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vingroup Pham Nhat Vuong, the personcreated conditions for the implementation of his duties. He decided to return.
He affirmed knot come back because of higher salary but have opportunity to doTechnology projects do not consider profits, and "train troops". The main policy is to initially focus other resources on creating scientific and technological achievements. Profits will be placed in later phases because doing technology does not bring quick profits. However, Professor Sy has faith in success. "If you do not have confidence, do not start working," Professor Sy said.
Assuming that Vietnam isLocated in the world's science and technology lowland and lacking many experts, many science and technology projects are not successful because of the lack of capable people to solve them, so he believes that mobilizing foreign experts will participate in supporting the country. When a specific task needs to be done, he willSynthesize the strength of a system of excellent foreign experts in cooperation with Vietnamese research institutes and universities.
He believes that to be successfulmust be planned and implemented by the Vietnamese people themselves. Personally, Professor Sy and the Group's leaders share the same views on methods, models, and s.will carry out work according to the model of exploiting intelligence, scientific and technological achievements as well as using internal resources to achieve common goals.
Research 24/24 hours, very high salary but no house
Professor Sy usually starts a new day at 3am. He does not get out of bed to avoid disturbing his wife, but lies down thinking about the projects and experiments he is pursuing. The entire time of the day, outside of the lab, wherever he goes, whatever he does, he thinks about what he is doing to find the answer.Every day he received 1,000 letters. He often did not have time to answer them and had to ask his scientific secretary.
His meals are often just bread, a glass of milk, or instant noodles because he doesn't have enough time. He explains that for a true scientist, what to eat today or what to do at home is not a matter of concern. It is because of that thought that at the age of 61, he has an academician salary that many people dream of, and then ""hard money, soft money" from scientific achievements,He doesn't have a house of his own in the true sense of the word.
"I don't have my own house but I have many houses, which are scientists. My house is the Fatherland," said Professor Sy, adding that he and many of his colleagues often consider the lab as their home. Many times he slept there when he needed to monitor new experiments.
For a long time, he did not know the prices of many items because he did not go to the supermarket, and did not pay attention to other services because he had a good wife. But he also revealed that, besides science, he loves football.
"Both Mr. Vuong and I love football. I used to be an amateur player. Mr. Vuong and I still run on the football field. We share the same love for this sport. If we have time, we will go to the field," Mr. Sy said.
Professor Nguyen Quoc Sy was born in 1967 and has 30 years of experience in researching Plasma physics and technology.is Head of the Plasma Energy Department, Russian National Power Engineering University (MEI), Director of the Plasma Physics Laboratory.
Professor Sy was honored as Corresponding Academician in 2012 by Russian President Vladimir Putin; Academician of the Russian Academy of Electrotechnical Sciences in 2015 with an absolute vote.
