Top reasons women decide to divorce
Of the 11 reasons considered common that cause many women to file for divorce from their husbands, 3 are considered the most important.
The recently published study on “Social factors determining gender inequality in Vietnam” in the period 2011-2015 by the Institute for Social Development Studies conducted a survey with 8,424 men and women in 11 provinces/cities (Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Thai Binh, Phu Tho, Lam Dong, Binh Thuan, Vinh Long, Tay Ninh, Hung Yen and Long An), showing that: Among those who were divorced, 50.51% said that their wives initiated the divorce.
The top 3 reasons they get divorced are:
Unfaithful husband (32.9%),
Domestic violence (23.6%)
Disagreement in views and lifestyle (23.38%).

In addition, there are some other reasons, although accounting for a small proportion, but there are differences between the two genders and quite clearly reflect traditional gender stereotypes and the reality of gender relations in Vietnamese families.
For example, no men asked for divorce because their wives did not share housework, while some women cited this as a reason for leaving their husbands. Conversely, no women said that their reason for divorcing their husbands was problems with their sex lives, while the rate for men was 0.45%.
Notably, 0.38% of men divorced because their wives were infertile, but 2.29% of women divorced because they themselves were infertile. Some women cited the reason for divorce as not being able to give birth to a son.
