The reason why Thuy Trang retired from the Vietnam Women's Team
Midfielder Thuy Trang has decided to retire from the Vietnam Women's National Team after the 2023 Women's World Cup in New Zealand.
On August 9, VFF announced the list of the Vietnam Women's National Team preparing for the 2023 ASIAD. The list of 25 players did not include veteran midfielder Tran Thi Thuy Trang. Shortly after, the news that the 35-year-old player had decided to retire from the Vietnam Women's National Team was officially confirmed.

According to Thuy Trang, this player wants to say goodbye to the Vietnam Women's Team to fully concentrate on playing for the Ho Chi Minh City Women's Football Club in the final period of her contract. Thuy Trang emphasized that she thought of this decision right after the World Cup, not when the list of the Vietnam Women's Team preparing for the ASIAD was announced.
At the 2023 Women's World Cup, Thuy Trang did not play in any of the three matches of the Vietnam Women's Team. The midfielder expressed that she was very eager to compete on the world stage but respected the decision of the coaching staff.
In 2021 and 2022, Thuy Trang played an important role in the Vietnam Women's National Team, helping the team win the SEA Games Gold Medal twice. However, since the 2022 AFF Women's Cup, the player from Ho Chi Minh City Women's Football Club is no longer in the main squad. During the preparation process for the 2023 Women's World Cup, Thuy Trang was also not a name in the main squad chosen by coach Mai Duc Chung.
The player born in 1988 is currently being offered by Lank FC to play in Portugal, but has not made a final decision.
