The reason Nguyen Vo Quynh Trang accepted the death penalty
Explaining the reason for withdrawing her appeal and accepting the death sentence, "stepmother" Nguyen Vo Quynh Trang said she did not want public opinion to affect the lives of her relatives.

In the petition, Nguyen Vo Quynh Trang stated: "Realizing that at the appeal trial stage, I feel pressured and tired. I do not want public opinion to affect the lives of my relatives, so I voluntarily write this petition to withdraw the appeal. I respectfully hope that the High People's Court in Ho Chi Minh City will consider and accept it."
According to the law, after the High People's Court in Ho Chi Minh City receives Trang's request to withdraw her appeal, the court will suspend the appeal trial for this defendant.

However, in the upcoming trial on April 28, to serve the trial, Nguyen Vo Quynh Trang will still be summoned to court.
Previously, in November 2022, the People's Court of Ho Chi Minh City sentenced Nguyen Vo Quynh Trang to death for "murder" and 3 years in prison for "torturing others", with a combined sentence of death.
Defendant Nguyen Kim Trung Thai was sentenced to 3 years in prison for "torturing others" and 5 years in prison for "concealing a criminal", for a total sentence of 8 years in prison.
After the first instance trial, the defendant Trang appealed for a reduced sentence. The victim’s representative, lawyer Nguyen Anh Thom, also appealed, requesting that the defendant’s charges be changed from “Torturing others” to “Murder”.
According to the first instance verdict, during the time living together in the apartment, Nguyen Kim Trung Thai entrusted his daughter NTVA (8 years old) to Nguyen Vo Quynh Trang to take care of.
Trang then bought a rattan cane to discipline Thai’s stepchild. When the cane broke, Trang started beating the child with a 90cm long wooden stick and forced VA to kneel in the dog cage.
At the climax, Trang used a dangerous weapon to hit the child's vital areas for nearly 4 hours, causing the child's death.
Thai was the person who directly raised and took care of baby VA. He saw Trang beat and torture her for many days and hours, but remained indifferent, did not stop her, and did not take any action to protect or shelter his child.
On December 22, 2021, after learning that Trang had beaten VA to death, Thai logged into the camera management application and deleted all data from the four cameras in the apartment to conceal Trang's crime.
