On the evening of October 11, Ly Hoang Nam defeated Maxime Tabatruong in the first round of the Vietnam Open 2016, becoming the first Vietnamese tennis player to win a match in an ATP Challenger tournament.
The victory over Maxime Tabatruong helped Hoang Nam gain eight more points. Thanks to that, he jumped from 683rd to 634th place, according to the scoreboard just announced by ATP..
In the men's doubles event, Hoang Nam jumped 111 places, reaching 707th place in the world. This achievement came thanks to him and Hoang Thien reaching the quarter-finals of the men's doubles event at the Vietnam Open 2016.
In the men's singles, with a total of 43 points, Hoang Nam is only 7 points behind the 600th ranked player Greg Jones of the US. If he achieves good results at the Vietnam F7 Futures tournament (from October 17 to October 23), the player born in 1997 can enter the top 600.
At the Vietnam F7 Futures, Hoang Nam is seeded fifth in the men's singles. In his opening match, he will face seventh seed David Agung Susanto from Indonesia.
