Ly Hung unexpectedly meets his 'lover' Diem Huong again after 30 years of losing contact

Actor Ly Hung said that for nearly 30 years, he and his co-star Diem Huong - who acted with him in dozens of films and many people mistook them for husband and wife - have lost contact. Diem Huong followed her family to settle abroad, while he is still active in the arts in Vietnam.

Recently, during the reunion of the first class of the Actors - Vietnam Cinema School in Ho Chi Minh City, he was extremely surprised to meet Diem Huong again. Accordingly, Diem Huong secretly returned from abroad on this occasion to surprise the members of the class.

"Not only me but all my classmates were surprised by Diem Huong's appearance. It had been a long... a long time since we had seen Diem Huong, so her appearance made everyone laugh and talk, recalling many old stories. The party was therefore warm and full of joy. Some of our classmates reminisced about old memories, some cooked, and after eating, they sang karaoke, each person singing a song.

Ly Hung and Diem Huong sang a duet of "Say you will" because this was the song that when we were still famous, we often performed together in many provinces and cities. The class reunion party ended but no one wanted to go home because they were still lingering and lingering... The party started at 12 noon but it was not until 8 pm that everyone wanted to go home," actor Ly Hung shared.

According to Ly Hung, Diem Huong is still young, beautiful, gentle and cute like that. The only difference is that now the actress has short hair and is a bit thinner than before. The two talked about many old stories, sometimes they couldn't stop laughing but there were also times when they were filled with tears.

"Diem Huong revealed that she is currently living with her family in the US. Life is comfortable and happy, her children are grown up. Occasionally she also returns to Vietnam to visit her family but is busy with this and that so it is not convenient to contact her friends. We said goodbye to each other and promised to have a class reunion next year that will be more fun and have more time," Ly Hung confided.

Previously, Ly Hung also said that in the 90s, when the commercial film genre (also known as "instant noodle films") developed, he was paired with many "screen beauties" such as: Diem Huong, Thu Ha, Giang My, Viet Trinh, Y Phung, Mong Van... However, he still acted the most with Diem Huong. Because they acted together in many films, and all played lovers, the audience assumed that the two were husband and wife in real life. And Ly Hung himself had to struggle many times to explain to the audience, but many people still did not believe what he said.

"In fact, it's very normal for actors to be paired together because they work so well together that they get paired up by fans. Diem Huong, Viet Trinh, Thu Ha, Giang My... and I were paired up a lot in the 90s. The reason we were paired up like that was because we played lovers, lovers, husband and wife... so passionately that people paired us up.

I did not feel uncomfortable but was happy to be loved by everyone. But it is true that during those years of working, I had to face many stories that I still find funny when I think back now. That is, every time I went on tour to the Central and Northern regions, many people kept asking "Why doesn't Ly Hung bring his wife along?". I was surprised and asked back "Hey, I have never been married, why would I bring a wife?".

People said, "Ly Hung is always joking, Diem Huong is Ly Hung's wife." Some people even saw us taking pictures together in bride and groom outfits with a baby in a calendar photo and misunderstood that I had a child with Diem Huong. This misunderstanding spread so widely that no matter how I explained it, the audience wouldn't believe it. Many people said, "Don't lie, everyone knows that you have a child with Diem Huong, so why hide it?"

Later, even after we no longer acted together, many viewers still wrote dozens of handwritten letters asking me to marry Diem Huong so they could watch the wedding. I had to hire several assistants to write handwritten letters explaining to each viewer so they could understand.

At that time, there was no internet, no social networks, no email... so I had to write letters by hand to send to my fans. Many days, I had to stay up until 2-3 am to write dozens of letters in response to my fans. Sometimes I was too tired to write, I had to dictate to my assistant so that I could reply to them in time," Ly Hung happily said.

According to Ly Hung, Diem Huong is a closed person, rarely socializes and does not like noise. At that time, wherever she went, her mother was always there to support her, so after finishing a performance, the mother and daughter would get in the car to go to another film set. Many "targets" wanted to approach the beauty to chat but they had to be cautious.

"I still remember very clearly, at that time, Diem Huong had a very special hobby which was to pick up flower branches that had fallen to the ground and put them in her hair. After putting them in her hair, she would act pretty and then ask someone to take a picture. At that time, sometimes, Diem Huong was still innocent like that. There were also times when Diem Huong showed her mischievousness but was gentle and cute, not like those with strong personalities," Ly Hung added.

The actor of "Pham Cong - Cuc Hoa" revealed that he was once pushed by his co-star Diem Huong because his kissing scene took a little longer than usual. This scene made the former "screen beauty" shy and blush.
