Ly Hung reveals record salary during golden age
Appearing in episode 5 of the show “Beautiful Memories”, Ly Hung surprised many viewers when he revealed his record-breaking salary during his heyday.
Accordingly, Ly Hung said that up to now he has participated in over 100 films and most of them are the main roles. However, he frankly admitted that he is not passionate about art but rather martial arts because his family has a martial arts school, so since the age of 5 he has been learning martial arts and likes to go into the ring to fight with opponents.
When asked by MC Minh Duc about his salary, the actor shared: “My lowest salary for acting in a movie was when I first started my career at the age of 12 (as a newspaper boy, using a slingshot to shoot a policeman's butt in the movie "Phuong" (1982) in which his father played a major of the old regime) and now it is 80 thousand dong for extras. After that, my salary increased every day because when a movie I participated in appeared in the cinema, the audience lined up to watch, so why didn't I ask for money? The producer makes a profit, so I should also benefit,” he said.
Besides, he also added that “Everyone loves money, in the past, when I received 80 thousand, I was happy, 30 million at that time was equivalent to 2 billion now, I was also happy. But I didn’t know about money, because in the past, all the money after signing the contract was taken by my mother.
That day I told my mother that she could take as much money as she wanted. Because my mother was a very kind-hearted person, she even gave all her money to charity, giving all her money to orphans, building schools, building bridges… I had a hard time making money, it was not simple, but when I came home and asked my mother, she said she had given it all away.

However, Ly Hung affirmed that until now he feels lucky to have the property, the most valuable asset is the morality that his mother left him. “Then there was also a sum of capital that later my mother did not keep anymore, she gave it to me so that I could do business. If I had been too young at that time and had such a large amount of money, I wonder if there would be the Ly Hung of today? Because too much money might have led to depravity,” he said.
Talking about the period when commercial films were popular, the male actor said that period not only made his name famous but also brought with it names like Le Cong Tuan Anh, Diem Huong, Thu Ha, Viet Trinh, Cong Hau, etc.
“At that time, I was already famous, but I hadn’t studied at school yet. My father saw that and said: “You’re already famous, but it’s even harder to keep it.” That’s why I went to the University of Theatre and Cinema. My class was also the first class of the school.
At that time, the whole South had thousands of people registering for the exam but they only selected 20 people. I went to school and got a salary, so I could buy cosmetics.”
According to Ly Hung, at that time, a class at the University of Theatre and Cinema only had about 2 successful people, but his class was lucky to have many famous people such as Diem Huong, Ngoc Hiep, Thieu Anh Duong, Le Tuan Anh and later Dat Phi.
