Ideals and commitment
(Baonghean) - Interacting with the 35 young Party members honored at the recent ceremony to commend outstanding young Party members organized by the Standing Committee of the Provincial Youth Union, one can fully appreciate the ideals of dedication, the sense of inheritance, and the development of these young Party members today.
Party members with ideals for the community.
Born into a disadvantaged family in Do Luong, with a war hero as his grandfather and his father having passed away at a young age, Party member Nguyen Duc Son developed an early will to strive for success and a deep empathy for those in difficult circumstances. Graduating from Vinh University with a good grade, he abandoned many opportunities in the lowlands to dedicate himself to the children at Nhon Mai Ethnic Boarding Secondary School – a school located in the reservoir area of Ban Ve Hydropower Plant in Tuong Duong district. This area is primarily inhabited by the Mong and Khmu ethnic groups, with over 90% of households living in poverty; students have to trek through mountains and streams for 4-5 hours to reach school. For nine years teaching at Nhon Mai, he and his wife have overcome difficulties and hardships, going to each family, encouraging children to attend class, and accompanying them through meals and sleep on their journey to literacy.

With his dedication, Mr. Nguyen Duc Son has directly mentored more than 20 students who have achieved excellent student status at the district level, including 3 who have achieved excellent student status at the provincial level, contributing to bringing Nhon Mai Ethnic Boarding Junior High School to the top ranks of the mountainous Tuong Duong district in training excellent students at all levels. Mr. Son said: “Many people ask why I volunteered to come here when there are so many schools in the lowlands that choose me? I simply answer that if everyone stayed in the lowlands, who would come to the mountains to teach, and when would the highlands ever escape poverty?”
On the front lines of the fight against crime and maintaining social security, young Party member and Senior Lieutenant Ho Sy Duc – born in 1985, Secretary of the Youth Union, Deputy Team Leader of the Drug Crime Investigation Department (PC47), Nghe An Provincial Police – is one of the outstanding examples. In our conversation with Duc, we learned that even while still in school, he harbored a burning dream of becoming a protector of the peace and security of his homeland. After graduating from the People's Police Academy, he began working at Team 2, PC47, Nghe An Provincial Police. Ready to undertake any task in any circumstance, with the intelligence, quick wit, and courage of a police officer, over the years, Duc and his colleagues have dismantled many drug dens and organized drug trafficking rings, arresting many dangerous drug offenders.
Notable achievements include the successful dismantling of a drug trafficking ring led by Nguyen Trong Tuan, residing in Khanh Son commune (Nam Dan district), resulting in the arrest of all involved individuals, including two Lao nationals, and the seizure of 30 kg of heroin and 200 synthetic drug pills; and the dismantling of a drug ring led by Lau Ba Denh, seizing 4 blocks of heroin, 1 grenade, 1 AK rifle, and 1 sawed-off shotgun... Facing danger and witnessing the sacrifice of many colleagues further strengthened Duc's determination and sense of responsibility to his profession and society. In 2013, he received a Certificate of Commendation from the Prime Minister and is currently being nominated by his unit for the Third Class Military Merit Medal. The Youth Union of the Nghe An Provincial Police Department has selected him as one of two exemplary individuals recommended for a Certificate of Commendation from the Ministry of Public Security.
On the economic development and poverty reduction front, Tran Van Mai, a Party member from Hamlet 2A, Thanh Phong (Thanh Chuong District), is also a prime example. Following the State's policy on land consolidation and exchange, he boldly registered to receive additional land for production development. With support from Thanh Chuong District, the District Youth Union, and the Central Youth Union's youth entrepreneurship support fund, he has built and developed a VAC (Vietnamese acronym for integrated farming system) farm model. Currently, his farm raises livestock, produces vegetables and flowers, raises 100 pigs, 1,000 chickens, and has 3 fish ponds... creating regular employment for 5 workers with an income of over 3.5 million VND/person/month. In addition, he also assists those in need with technical advice, helping people implement proper livestock farming procedures. Currently, his farm generates a total income of 1.2 billion VND/year. Party member Tran Van Mai is also the Deputy Head of the Youth Economic Development Club of Thanh Chuong District, and the Vice Chairman of the Fatherland Front Committee of Thanh Phong Commune, demonstrating responsibility and dedication to his work. Through these efforts, he has contributed to changing the perceptions of the people of Thanh Phong Commune regarding the restructuring of crop and livestock production, and the application of scientific and technological advancements in production and animal husbandry.
There are many more exemplary young Party members on various fronts, but generally, they impress us with their courage, boldness, and above all, their determination to pursue their ideals and work towards the common good of the community. They are living proof that young people in general, and young Party members in particular, demonstrate a sense of responsibility—an ideal that today's young generation must set for themselves on the path to self-improvement and becoming active citizens of society.
To promote and spread
Exemplary role models have a greater impact than a thousand words; these are the factors that our Party and people need to build and cultivate as "milestones" and "lighthouses" to help today's youth find their place and direction on the path to the future.
To foster aspirations, ideals, and direction for young people, in recent years, Party committees at all levels in the province have consistently cared for the Youth Union, considering youth work as an important task aimed at educating and nurturing outstanding young people to serve as a source of Party members, and giving priority to youth work. Many resolutions on youth work have been issued and implemented, creating favorable conditions and environments for young people to contribute and grow. Last year, the province recommended over 6,213 outstanding Youth Union members to the Party for consideration for membership, and 4,178 outstanding Youth Union members were admitted to the Party. These are young people who have persistently strived in their studies and work, and are chosen as key figures to inspire their peers with a spirit of not being afraid of difficulties and hardships, eliminating passive and selfish thinking – "everyone chooses the easy work, who will take on the hard work?" Comrade Nguyen Quang Tung - Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Provincial Agencies Bloc - affirmed his confidence in the younger generation: "It is necessary to inspire and guide young people, building in them the belief that they are the inheritors and developers of the fine qualities of their forefathers, knowing how to sacrifice and dedicate themselves to the community."
In particular, young Party members must be educated to understand the difference in responsibilities between Party members and active non-Party members. Joining the Party requires not only intellectual capacity but, above all, exemplary moral character, a clean and healthy lifestyle, and the ability to be a pioneer, a leading figure, a guiding light, a political leader, and a reliable support for the masses and the people. Comrade Nguyen Dinh Hung, Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union, proposed: “When a young Party member joins the Party, the local Party organization must continue to nurture and guide them, and especially trust them because they are the factors that make the Party strong and ensure its continued existence in the hearts of the people.”
Young people consistently demonstrate a rapid and keen ability to absorb new things brought about by global integration. However, the question of how to absorb and apply this vast stream of knowledge and information is extremely important. This is why it is necessary to guide young people in general, and young Party members in particular, towards ideals and aspirations that harmonize with the common good of the community, so that their youthful energy and abilities can be utilized and spread throughout society. But most decisively, it is the self-motivation and proactive efforts of each young person and each Party member to improve their skills and cultivate their moral character.
It is essential to recognize that the objective demands of the times and society require the self-determination of each individual to strive for improvement. The ultimate goal is self-perfection, building oneself into an outstanding individual who positively impacts the environment in which one lives. As Lieutenant Ho Sy Duc – Team 2, PC47 Department, Provincial Police – affirmed: “As police officers who selflessly serve the people, we understand better than anyone the importance of self-study and self-improvement. Without continuous self-improvement, we, as Party members, will eventually fall behind. That is precisely when you will feel lost within your own society and community.”
