Traditional remedies using plantain
Treating enteritis, diarrhea, and dysentery:Equal amounts of plantain and pagoda tree flowers are roasted until golden brown, then ground into a powder. Take 8g each time, twice a day.
Treating stomach and duodenal ulcers:Drink the juice or decoction made from fresh plantain leaves daily.
Treating hypertension:Brew fresh plantain leaves and drink three times a day.
Treating diabetes:Equal amounts of Plantago major, Cornus officinalis, Poria cocos, Rehmannia glutinosa, and Dioscorea opposita are decocted and taken long-term.
Treating coughs, especially coughs with phlegm:Plantain, stemona root, ophiopogon root, and platycodon root, in equal amounts, are decocted and drunk until the illness is cured.
Treating painful urination, frequent urination, and yellow or dark urine:12g of plantain flowers, 20g of deer antler extract, 12g of cogon grass root, 4g of cinnamon bark, decoct and drink until the illness is cured.
Treatment of urinary stones with bleeding and congestion:20g of plantain, 40g of goldenrod, 16g of coix seeds, 12g of achyranthes root, 8g each of betel nut peel, chicken gizzard lining, peach kernel, turmeric, and citrus peel; take one decoction daily until cured.
Treatment of acute cystitis:The prescription includes 16g of plantain, 12g each of Poria cocos, Imperata cylindrica, Phellodendron amurense, and Coptis chinensis; 8g each of talc, Polyporus umbellatus, Akebia quinata, and processed Pinellia ternata. One decoction per day should be taken with water until the illness is cured.
Treatment of glomerulonephritis:For acute glomerulonephritis, use plantain 16g, gypsum 20g, atractylodes, jujube, ephedra each 12g, wood thông 8g, cinnamon twig, ginger, licorice each 6g. Drink one decoction per day.

Treating edema, scanty urination, yellow urine, and difficulty urinating:12g plantain seeds, 5g Akebia stem, 6g Ephedra, 9g each of Areca catechu peel, Citrus peel, Perilla leaf, Saposhnikovia root, Stephania root, and Morus alba bark, 12g each of Paeonia root and Poria cocos. Decoction to be taken once a day.
Treats symptoms such as dry mouth, dry throat, back and knee pain, mild fever, tinnitus, dizziness, red tongue, and night sweats:25g plantain seeds, 20g each of Alisma orientalis, Paeonia lactiflora, Lycium barbarum, Ligustrum lucidum, and Dioscorea opposita, 15g of Dioscorea opposita, 25g each of Poria cocos, Morus alba, Euphorbia hirta, and Rehmannia glutinosa. Decoction to be taken once a day.
Treating difficulty urinating due to an enlarged prostate:24g plantain seeds, 6g safflower, 15g each of Epimedium, Gleditsia sinensis, pangolin scales, Cynomorium songaricum, and Citrus aurantium. Decoct and drink one dose per day, divided into 2-3 portions throughout the day.
Treating symptoms such as difficulty urinating, facial swelling, leg edema, abdominal distension, and poor appetite:12g plantain, 6g cinnamon twig, 15g rhizome of Smilax glabra, 12g each of tangerine peel, Alisma orientalis, Atractylodes macrocephala, Poria cocos, Polyporus umbellatus, and Imperata cylindrica. Decoction to be taken once a day.
Treating symptoms of damp heat, difficulty urinating, burning sensation during urination, scanty urine, and urine that is red or cloudy:Take 8-10g of finely powdered plantain seeds daily, divided into two doses.
