Not only does it have a special commemorative meaning, the Yamaha Vmax 60th Anniversary just arrived in Vietnam, marking 30 years and also the end of the Vmax line.
Launched 2 years ago, the Yamaha Vmax 60th Anniversary superbike, nicknamed "speed demon", is a special version in the series of motorbikes celebrating the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the Yamaha Corporation's motorbike manufacturing branch. Until now, this model has only come to Vietnam for the first time through a private importer in Saigon. |
First launched in 1985, the Yamaha VMax is considered by many to be the "founder" of the "muscular" power cruiser line, with later representatives such as the Harley-Davidson V-Rod or Ducati Diavel. The current generation of VMax was announced by Yamaha in 2008 and after nearly 10 years, the bike still looks very "cool" and modern like its newer competitors. |
As one of Yamaha's signature models, this year the V-Max also has a special 60th Anniversary version, with the "Speed Block" racing decal similar to the company's classic racing cars. Compared to the normal versions, the Vmax 60th Anniversary has the same overall design, with all the typical features of the model such as the "egg-shaped" headlights and air intakes on both sides of the fuel tank. |
At the front, the vehicle uses 18-inch rims with Bridgestone 120/70/18 tires. As one of the strongest and fastest cruiser models, the Vmax has a powerful front brake system with semi-floating dual discs (the disc is not integrated with the disc surface) and 6-piston calipers on each side. The rim decals on the vehicle have been added by the owner. |
In addition to the VMax, some other famous Yamaha models such as the R1, R6 or Super Tenere also have special versions to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the motorcycle manufacturing branch. However, on the VMax, the Speed Block racing sticker is just a strip running along the body of the vehicle, while other details still retain the characteristic "cool" black color. |
The VMax's dashboard is simple with an analog tachometer and an electronic speedometer. Above is an additional gear shift indicator light when the engine speed is high. This design is influenced by drag racing cars, where the driver only needs to focus on shifting gears so that the car can achieve maximum acceleration. |
The remaining parameters of the vehicle such as ODO, odometer, clock, coolant temperature, fuel level, gear are displayed on another small screen on the fuel tank - a layout that Ducati later "learned" with the Diavel. |
The VMax 60th Anniversary is still equipped with a naturally aspirated V4 engine with a capacity of up to 1679 cc, making the car reach a maximum capacity of up to 200 horsepower and a maximum torque of 167 Nm. Combined with the engine is a 5-speed manual transmission and a clutch with anti-lock function when downshifting (slipper clutch). |
With the above capacity, VMax is currently the most powerful model in the power cruiser segment. However, if equipped with an Akrapovic exhaust, the vehicle will be even more powerful. However, the "original" exhaust on the Vmax 60th Anniversary in Vietnam still has a strong and quite "cool" sound with 2 pairs of symmetrical dual exhausts on both sides. |
Engine power is transmitted to the rear wheel with wide rims and 200/50 tires via a cardan shaft. Despite the large tires, the rear wheel of the Vmax 60th Anniversary still does not look too big when viewed from behind due to its "massive" size. At the rear, the vehicle is equipped with a symmetrical 2-piston brake system; the entire braking system of the Vmax is provided by Nissin. |
