Former Malaysian leader Mahathir Mohamad, 92, won the May 10 election. Mahathir's opposition alliance ended the rule of the Barisan Nasional coalition, which had led Malaysia since independence in 1957.
Mahathir served as Malaysia's prime minister from 1981 to 2003. He returned to the polls this year to face Prime Minister Najib Razak, who is embroiled in a corruption scandal. Mahathir will be the world's oldest prime minister.
