| The historic flood in early October 2022 caused severe damage to many winter crops in Hung Nguyen district. 15 hectares of winter cucumber crops belonging to farmers in Hung Tan commune (Hung Nguyen district), which were in the fruiting stage, were completely submerged. During the heavy rains, farmers had to rely on the rain to save the cucumbers. However, 8 hectares were severely flooded, and the cucumber plants withered and died after the flood. After the water receded, the people promptly sowed seedlings and replanted. Currently, the cucumber plots have taken root and are expected to yield their first harvest in a few weeks. | In the Con Go rice paddy area (Dong village, Hung Tan commune), people are busy tending to purple garlic – the main crop for the 2022 winter season. “During the flood, this field was completely submerged. As soon as the rain stopped, people rushed to the fields to clear the waterways and dredge the ditches to drain the water. Once the land dried and the sun came out, they prepared the soil and planted the seeds to ensure timely planting. Currently, 2 hectares of purple garlic in Dong village are already turning green,” said Mr. Phan Thanh Ha, head of Dong village. Photo: Thanh Phuc |
