Tottenham were tasked with toppling Man City's dominance as they were the other big opponents in the first leg. However, Man City added Tottenham's name to the list of 17 victims in the Premier League after just 18 rounds.

This victory helped Man City strengthen their record of consecutive wins in the Premier League to 16. The team also increased the gap with neighbor Man Utd to 14 points before the opponent visits West Brom on Sunday, December 17.

The away team actively fought for the ball and followed closely right after the opening whistle to limit the coordination of Coach Guardiola's players. This created many difficulties for Man City in the first minutes, making them somewhat nervous when they had not yet caught up with the rhythm of the match.

The problems quickly disappeared after the opening goal. Tottenham's defence seemed to forget the diminutive midfielder Gundogan at a corner kick and paid the price with a simple header. The lead gave Man City control of the game, forcing Tottenham to chase the ball and commit fouls to stop them.

Tottenham's helplessness was shown by the two attacking stars Harry Kane and Dele Alli's violent tackles on Kevin de Bruyne. Immediately after being fouled by Alli, De Bruyne responded by doubling the gap with a powerful cross-angle shot that forced goalkeeper Hugo Lloris to pick the ball out of the net despite having touched it with one hand.

De Bruyne continued to torment Tottenham's defense with a burst of speed that forced fellow defender Jan Vertonghen to commit a foul in the box. However, striker Gabriel Jesus could not score from the 11-meter mark, hitting the post.

The Etihad fans did not have to wait long for more goals. Tottenham pushed forward in the final minutes and were hit by counterattacks from the speedy Man City players. Sterling was the one who finished off both of the counter-attacks.

Tottenham had to wait until the last minute to reduce the score. Christian Eriksen took a low shot from the edge of the box, leaving goalkeeper Ederson unable to dive to block.
