Man City receive penalty after defeat to Wigan
The English Football Association (FA) has fined Man City £50,000 in connection with the chaos following their recent loss to Wigan in the fifth round of the FA Cup.
According to the FA's announcement, the reason Man City was fined was because they failed to control the players' behavior after the match, causing chaos, specifically when striker Sergio Aguero collided and almost "got physical" with a fan who rushed onto the field.
In addition, there was also the incident where Man City players surrounded referee Anthony Taylor after Fabian Delph was shown a red card. "Man City were fined 50,000 pounds after admitting they failed to ensure their players expressed their opinions in an orderly manner. The incident took place during the FA Cup match against Wigan last month," the FA announced.
After Delph was sent off, coach Pep Guardiola and his Wigan counterpart Paul Cook had arguments on the sidelines as well as in the tunnel back to the dressing room at the end of the match. Guardiola pushed Cook. The Wigan strategist also jumped in but was stopped in time.
However, the FA previously said it would not investigate the incident but would instead focus on the failure of Wigan and Man City to control their players in the incident that led to Delph's red card. The penalty has been handed out and fortunately is not too severe for the Etihad Stadium team.
