Coach Wenger shaking his head in frustration on the technical bench was a typical image for Arsenal in the match on the evening of March 1. Man City, with their sharpness in the first half, quickly finished off their opponents at Emirates with three goals.

Leroy Sane was at the heart of the visitors' goalscoring exploits. The German winger made a powerful run down the left flank, beating three Arsenal players before setting up Bernardo Silva for a left-footed finish past Petr Cech. Sane also contributed to the second goal, combining with Aguero to help David Silva double the score with a close-range strike.

Sane scored the third goal of the game, finishing off a Kyle Walker cross from close range. Sane scored his eighth Premier League goal, alongside 11 assists for his teammates.

Arsenal looked to have salvaged a glimmer of hope early in the second half when Mkhitaryan was fouled by Nicolas Otamendi in the box. But Aubameyang was unable to beat Ederson from the penalty spot. The Brazilian has saved both penalties he has faced this season in the Premier League, including Luka Milivojevic against Crystal Palace.

By defeating Arsenal, Man City restored their 16-point lead over Man Utd with only 10 rounds left in the season. Meanwhile, Arsenal remained in sixth place and 10 points behind fourth-placed Tottenham.

Wenger has responded strongly to questions about his possible departure but a second heavy defeat in four days to Manchester City only added to the pressure on the Frenchman. Last night's game was played in front of 10,000 empty seats at the Emirates Stadium, underscoring the frustration of a large number of Arsenal fans.

Wenger's side have lost seven games in all competitions in 2018, their worst run of form in the Premier League, and their chances of qualifying for the Champions League through a top-four finish are all but over, with Arsenal's only chance of qualifying for the elite competition being to win the Europa League.

On the other side, Pep Guardiola had his 69th win in 100 games in charge of Man City. The first half against Arsenal was the most entertaining performance of the team under the Catalan coach. After winning the first title, the League Cup, last weekend, Guardiola is almost certain to win the Premier League. Man City can be crowned champions in the next two rounds if they continue to win and Man Utd stumble.
