According to the investigation, taking advantage of the Covid-19 epidemic situation, Quan created a Facebook account.Mai Linh HoangUsing a residential address in Quang Tri, he posted a mask for sale for 35,000 VND per box, and anyone who needed any amount could get it.
On February 2, a 36-year-old woman in Thach Linh Ward, Ha Tinh City, contacted Quan and ordered 740 boxes of masks, each containing 50. Tien and Phong then pretended to be a seller and a truck owner, using a junk SIM card to call the customer to convince them to transfer money.
Believing her, the woman transferred more than 25 million VND to the bank account provided by Quan's group. After receiving the money, the three young men blocked Facebook and cut off contact with the customer.
From the victim's report, Ha Tinh City Police investigated and after a week found out the whereabouts of Quan, Phong and Tien.
The three suspects said that to avoid police detection, they created Facebook accounts at public Internet cafes. When the victims transferred money, they transferred it through three bank accounts in Quang Tri and Binh Duong before withdrawing it.
