Man Utd are negotiating to sign Ibrahimovic in phase two

Coach Mourinho admitted that the opportunity for Ibrahimovic to return to Man Utd is very big.

Man Utd did not choose to extend Ibrahimovic's contract for another year and parted ways after the player suffered a knee injury at the end of last season.

"Ibrahimovic still wants to play top-level football," Mourinho said. "So we are talking about the possibility of him joining in the second phase of the season."

Ibrahimovic's knee injury is expected to keep him out until the end of 2017, so if he signs a new contract with Man Utd, the Swedish striker will only play in the second phase.

The Swedish striker was Man Utd's top scorer last season, scoring 28 times in 46 games before getting injured. However, Ibrahimovic believes he could have done better if given more opportunities.

"He needs time to recover from his injury," Mourinho said. "Ibrahimovic has been very clear that last season was not satisfactory for him. He believes he can do better."

Man Utd currently have three strikers: Lukaku, Martial and Rashford. However, coach Mourinho only uses Lukaku as the highest player while the other two players often play on the wings. If Ibrahimovic returns in the second phase, he will be a quality backup for the center forward position.
