(Baonghean.vn) - On the afternoon of January 13th, the High People's Court opened a criminal appeals trial to hear the case of illegal drug trafficking against Vu Dinh Duong (born in 1980, residing in Gia Binh district, Bac Ninh province) based on Duong's appeal.

According to documents from the Nghe An Provincial Police investigation agency, from March to July 2006, Vu Dinh Duong and his accomplices carried out four illegal drug trafficking operations involving 40 blocks of heroin. When this drug ring was dismantled, Duong quickly went into hiding and established another drug trafficking ring.

Under the alias Vu Dinh Tuan, Vu Dinh Duong operated a drug trafficking ring that transported narcotics from Lang Son to southern provinces. From 2009 to 2013, Vu Dinh Duong and his accomplices carried out four drug deals involving 124 blocks of heroin. On August 7, 2013, Vu Dinh Duong was arrested by the Bac Giang Provincial Police while completing a drug deal worth 9 billion VND.

In September 2014, Vu Dinh Duong was sentenced to death by the Bac Giang Provincial People's Court for illegally trafficking narcotics.

During the process of establishing a drug trafficking ring and being arrested by the Bac Giang Provincial Police, Vu Dinh Duong was already wanted nationwide by the Nghe An Provincial Police Investigation Agency for the crime of illegal drug trafficking.

On March 31, 2015, Vu Dinh Duong was transferred from the Bac Giang Provincial Police detention center to Nghe An province to serve his trial for the crime of illegally trafficking narcotics. He was sentenced to death by the Nghe An Provincial People's Court for trafficking 40 blocks of heroin, a crime he had been involved in since 2006.

Following the initial verdict, Duong filed an appeal requesting a reduced sentence with the High People's Court. At the Supreme Court's appellate hearing on January 13th, Vu Dinh Duong failed to present any new evidence in his favor. The panel of judges rejected the appeal and upheld the initial verdict against Vu Dinh Duong.
