Internet will be unstable for the next 4 days
Internet access in Vietnam was intermittent from January 6 to January 9 due to the relocation and reconfiguration of the AAG and APG submarine cables.
Specifically, according to the announcement from the APG cable system, to serve the expansion of Changi Airport (Singapore), the system will move the cable in Singapore from 00:00 on January 6 to 22:00 on January 7, 2018.
Also according to the international partner's plan, from January 6, the partner will reconfigure the AAG cable source and is expected to completely restore the AAG cable by January 9, 2018.
During the process of relocating and configuring the two submarine cables, the international Internet connection channel traffic on these submarine cables will be temporarily interrupted, affecting international and Vietnamese network operators operating on these submarine optical cables.

To limit the impact, according to a representative of VNPT, one of the operators on these two routes, the unit has proactively developed a plan to organize routing, prioritizing traffic on other submarine cables and international cables running on land in operation to ensure the quality of international connections for customers. However, the quality of Internet connections of some customers will be affected. Therefore, VNPT is working closely with partners to update the situation.
The APG (Asia Pacific Gateway) submarine cable is capable of providing a maximum bandwidth of up to 54 Tbps. The cable is approximately 10,400 km long and is located under the Pacific Ocean. The cable has connection points in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
Meanwhile, AAG was put into operation in November 2009 with a total length of 20,191 km and a total capacity of up to 2Terabit/second with a total investment of 560 million USD. The AAG line has landing points at Mersing (Malaysia), Changi (Singapore), Sri Racha (Thailand), Tungku (Bruney), Currimao (Philippines), South Lantau (Hong Kong), Guam (USA), Hawaii (USA)... The AAG line lands in Vietnam at Vung Tau, located in the S1 section with a length of 314 km.
In addition to the relocation and reconfiguration plans mentioned above, the AAG and APG submarine cables have encountered random problems many times since they were put into operation. In 2017, the AAG line had problems at least five times. Meanwhile, the APG system had only been operational since early 2017 but was also broken by mid-year.
