On the morning of July 27, Do Luong District Police said that the unit was temporarily detaining 3 subjects to continue investigating and clarifying the act of producing and selling fake silver at gold and silver shops.
Previously, Do Luong District Police received a report from Ms. Nguyen Thi Ha (residing in Block 4, Do Luong Town) that on July 19, 2018, two strange young men came to her store to sell 5 silver necklaces for nearly 8 million VND. However, after checking, she realized that the silver was fake.
On July 22, Do Luong District Police continued to receive a complaint from Mr. Nguyen Quoc Dung (residing in Block 9, Do Luong Town) about being tricked by two young men into selling fake silver necklaces using the above method.
After investigation and verification, on July 25, 2018, Do Luong District Police arrested Do Xuan Luan (born in 1990, residing in Yen Thang Commune, Y Yen District, Nam Dinh Province); Nguyen Dinh Duc (born in 1999) and Nguyen Thai Hoa (born in 2000), both residing in Yen Son Commune, Do Luong District.
According to the suspects’ statements, from June 2018 until his arrest, Do Xuan Luan bought many low-quality silver metal chains from an unknown person through social networks. After that, Luan counterfeited silver in a ratio of 3 parts silver mixed with 7 parts zinc. To deceive buyers, Luan electrostatically coated the outside of the chain with a layer of silver.
