A 13-year-old girl in Binh Duong was hospitalized with difficulty swallowing and severe pain in her lower throat after eating chicken.

After 60 minutes of the procedure, the doctor successfully removed a piece of chicken thigh bone 2.5 cm long, 1 cm wide with many sharp, jagged edges.

After removing the foreign object, the patient no longer had any difficulty swallowing and did not cough up blood. Family members said the child was eating while watching TV and was not paying attention, so he swallowed a large piece of bone.
Doctor Son Parachh, who directly performed the procedure on the child patient, said that swallowing a foreign object is a common medical accident. However, the case of swallowing a foreign object as large as this child patient is quite rare and rarely happens.If the child does not go to the hospital in time for intervention, the bone fragment can puncture the esophagus causing mediastinitis or move down to the small intestine or large intestine causing inflammation, obstruction or intestinal perforation leading to peritonitis, which is life-threatening.
