Marca: '$1.2 billion spent in craziest transfer window'
Marca (Spain) expressed surprise when looking back at the first two months of the 2016 summer transfer market.
Including Juventus' $99 million purchase of Higuain, clubs in the five major leagues (Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A, Ligue 1) have spent a total of $1.2 billion on summer transfers. This figure is only the result of the first two months, not including the exciting sprint period that usually occurs in August every year.

In England, Man Utd and Liverpool have both spent around $88 million (not counting Paul Pogba's upcoming move to Man Utd). Arsenal ranked third with around $50 million spent on the purchase of Granit Xhaka.
Dortmund, who finished second in the Bundesliga last season, have lost some key players but have made worthy additions. They have spent 124 million on Mario Gotze, Andre Schurrle, Mikel Merino, Marc Bartra and others. Bayern have also shown their generosity by spending 80 million on Mats Hummels and Renato Sanches.
In Italy, besides the Higuain deal, Juventus also spent 35 million to get Pjanic from Roma. Napoli also plans to spend a lot after getting 99 million from the sale of Higuain.
In Spain, the transfer market seems to be quieter. Real just spent 33 million to buy back Morata from Juventus, while Barca spent 82.5 million to bring in four players including Umtiti, Digne, Andre Gomes and Denis Suarez. Atletico also spent 54 million to get four new players.
In the English Premier League, Rafa Benitez's Newcastle spent 44 million on transfers. This figure is even higher than the amount spent by at least 15 La Liga teams (in addition to Barca, Real, Atletico, Sevilla and Valencia).
