To raise awareness about ALS, the Facebook CEO joined the Ice Bucket Challenge and even enlisted the help of the Microsoft founder.

Mark Zuckerberg recently shared a video of himself pouring a bucket of ice water over his head. He then urged Bill Gates, Sheryl Sandberg, and Reed Hastings to do the same within 24 hours, or they would donate a certain amount of money to the ALS organization.
In response to that challenge, instead of simply pouring cold water over his head, the Microsoft co-founder designed a system to hang the bucket.

In a video shared on YouTube, Bill Gates is seen listening to the Facebook CEO's challenge to participate in the Ice Bucket Challenge. Despite being nearly 60 years old, the tech billionaire accepted the challenge.
He built a support system so he wouldn't have to carry the bucket of water himself, but could just pull a string. Gates then passed the challenge on to host Ryan Seacrest, billionaire Elon Musk, and TED moderator Chris Anderson.

ALS is a disease that paralyzes the motor neurons in the human brain, and once diagnosed, patients are confined to wheelchairs for life. The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, aimed at raising awareness and donations for ALS research, spread rapidly in the US.
