'Mat Biec' won the Golden Lotus award at the Vietnam Film Festival
On the evening of November 20, at the Huong River Theater - Hue Academy of Music (Hue City, Thua Thien Hue Province), the 22nd Vietnam Film Festival with the theme "Building a Vietnamese film industry rich in national identity, modernity and humanity" officially closed and presented awards.
Attending the closing ceremony were alternate members of the Party Central Committee: Le Hai Binh - Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department and Bui The Duy - Deputy Minister of Science and Technology; leaders of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province and related departments and branches and many Vietnamese cinema artists.
This year, from 141 films submitted, the Festival Organizing Committee selected 128 films from 48 units, including: 26 feature films, 56 documentaries, 15 scientific films and 31 animated films. Of which, the competition program includes 17 feature films, 37 documentaries, 15 scientific films, and 23 animated films.

According to the Jury, the works participating in the Feature Film category this year are quite rich in genre and diverse in trends. The Documentary and Scientific Film categories participating in the festival have increased in quantity, with attractive, diverse issues that appeal to the audience. The Animation category has a large number of participants with 31 films; at the same time, it also shows the remarkable progress in production techniques of Vietnamese filmmakers.
At the award ceremony and closing ceremony, the Organizing Committee honored the best works, actors, directors, and cinematographers in 4 categories: documentary, animation, science film, and feature film. Of which, the Golden Lotus Award was given to 4 films and 6 Silver Lotus Awards in 4 film categories.
In the category of Feature Film, the Golden Lotus Award was given to the film “Mat Biec”, produced by Galaxy Entertainment and Education Joint Stock Company; the Silver Lotus Award was given to the film “Bo Gia”, produced by Hoan Khue Film Production Joint Stock Company and Tran Thanh Town Company Limited.
In the Documentary category, the Golden Lotus was awarded to the film “Border”, produced by the Center for Documentary and Reportage Films, Vietnam Television; the Silver Lotus was awarded to two films: “Red Film”, produced by the People's Army Cinema, and “Shine of the Child”, produced by the Central Documentary and Scientific Film Studio.

In the category of Scientific Films, the Golden Lotus was awarded to the film “Traffic Blind Spot”, produced by the Center for Documentary and Reportage Films, Vietnam Television; the Silver Lotus was awarded to the film “Mountain Flood”, produced by the Central Documentary and Scientific Film Studio.
In the category of Animation, the Golden Lotus was awarded to the film “The Wooden Bird”, produced by Vietnam Animation Studio Joint Stock Company; the Silver Lotus was awarded to two films: “The Teacher of All Time”, produced by Vietnam Animation Studio Joint Stock Company and “The Light Never Goes Out”, produced by Vietnam Animation Studio Joint Stock Company.
In addition to the award structure as in previous Film Festivals, the Organizing Committee decided to award two new awards, including the Best Feature Film Special Effects Award and the Best Debut Feature Film Director Award.
Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ta Quang Dong, Head of the Steering Committee of the 22nd Vietnam Film Festival, assessed that with the spirit of flexibility and adaptation in the new normal conditions, it both ensures safe prevention and control of the Covid-19 epidemic and meets the criteria for holding a solemn film festival of the Vietnamese Cinema industry.
The 22nd Vietnam Film Festival continues to be affirmed as a professional artistic event, attracting a large number of producers, artists, film activists, many cinematic works of artistic quality, humanistic value and high revenue.
Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong affirmed that this year's Film Festival has gathered the best of Vietnamese cinema in the past two years. Although the Covid-19 pandemic is fierce, the number of participating films is higher than the previous one. In particular, documentary and scientific films have developed strongly, deeply reflecting the breath of the times and the reality of life we are facing. Feature films with the presence of a series of high-quality, high-grossing "blockbusters" demonstrate the success of Vietnamese cinema. Many films represent new trends, breakthroughs and artistic value.

“Taking place in special circumstances, despite the streamlined and simple organization, the festival still achieved the expected results. The festival was carried out with the spirit of overcoming difficulties and the aspiration to contribute that the Film industry aims for to contribute to the implementation of the “10-year socio-economic development strategy, 2021-2030”, which is “Promoting cultural values, the strength of the Vietnamese people; strongly arousing the nation's development aspirations, patriotism, pride, self-reliance and compassion, the spirit of solidarity and social consensus”, Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong emphasized.
“Thua Thien Hue has closely coordinated to ensure safety in epidemic prevention and control, and is thoughtful in organizing. This film festival is also an event to promote the image of the people and country of Vietnam, especially the poetic land of Hue. Thereby, it contributes to promoting the image of the homeland and people of Hue, attracting Hue to become a destination for filmmakers as well as being known by many people at home and abroad. This is what I hope for so that the film industry is always associated with tourism,” said Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong.
At the closing night, leaders of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism handed over the flag to host the 23rd Vietnam Film Festival in 2023 to leaders of Lam Dong province.
