Strange loss of money while paying at Big C supermarket.

April 17, 2014 09:57

Upon discovering that money had been unusually deducted from her loyalty card multiple times, a customer complained to Big C, who responded: "If you've ever worked at a Big C store, you'll know that nothing is perfect."

"Nothing is perfect."

Disappointed with Big C's response, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hai (Pham Hong Thai Street, Hai Duong), a customer of the supermarket, reluctantly left with a blank card, even though the system had previously continuously notified her of her accumulated savings.

Regarding the strange disappearance of money from her loyalty card, Ms. Hai said: "Initially, I simply thought it was because the supermarket's payment system hadn't updated the accumulated amount on the card yet. The amount accumulated for each payment wasn't much, only a few thousand to a few tens of thousands of dong, so I didn't pay close attention."

Ms. H often left disappointed with a blank card, even though the system had repeatedly notified her about her savings.

"However, the strange and recurring loss of money made me suspicious. It was odd; every time I swiped my card, the receipt showed a balance of 0 VND. When I complained to the cashier about this strange loss, they blamed me, saying I had lent my card to someone else, causing my savings to disappear. They insisted the supermarket always operates correctly," Ms. Hai added.

With no other explanation available, the supermarket staff blamed the cardholder's mistake for the missing money.

To verify this, on several occasions, Ms. Hai split the payment into two consecutive invoices. And just as she predicted, the first invoice showed the amount of money accumulated on the card, but the next invoice showed the money had "vanished".

Two consecutive payment receipts provide evidence of money mysteriously disappearing from the savings card.

"Every time I pay, the receipt shows the amount saved, but strangely, the next time the amount is 0 dong. When I complain, the Big C staff give various excuses to avoid answering," Ms. Hai said.

Exposed, Big C secretly sent 99,000 VND back to customers.

Extremely upset about the strange loss of money while shopping at Big C supermarket, Ms. Hai went to Big C's Customer Service Department to complain. Ms. Le Thi Huong Giang, the Head of the Department, told her: "We manage thousands of these cards; errors are normal. If the error is confirmed, we will deposit the money back into your account."

The supermarket representative, Ms. Le Thi Huong Giang, Head of Customer Care Department, replied: "If you've ever worked at the BigC system, you'll know that nothing is perfect."

Ms. Huong Giang also firmly stated: "Anyone who has ever worked at the Big C supermarket system knows that nothing is perfect."

About a week after she complained, the money that had "disappeared" from Ms. Hai's loyalty card was "suddenly" returned to her account by the supermarket, amounting to 99,000 VND.

Ms. Hai was quite surprised to receive such a small amount of money. “Because compared to the total of all the payment receipts since I got my card, 99,000 VND is only a fraction. And what’s even more concerning is that they didn’t notify me at all when they sent it,” Ms. Hai said.
