Strange loss of money when paying at Big C supermarket

When customers discovered that their loyalty cards had been missing money many times, Big C responded: "If you have ever worked in the BigC system, you will know that nothing is perfect."

"Nothing is perfect"


Disappointed with Big C's response, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hai (Pham Hong Thai, Hai Duong), a customer of this supermarket, had to sadly leave with a blank card, even though the system had continuously notified her of her savings.

Regarding the strange loss of money from her loyalty card, Ms. Hai said: “At first, I simply thought that the supermarket’s payment system had not updated the accumulated amount on the card in time. The accumulated amount for each payment was not much, only a few thousand to a few tens of thousands of dong, so I did not pay close attention.”

Ms. H often sadly leaves with a blank card, even though the system has continuously notified her of her savings.


“However, the fact that money was lost in a strange way continuously made me suspicious. It was strange, every time I swiped my card, the bill showed that the card had 0 VND. When I asked the cashier about this strange loss, they all blamed me for lending my card to someone, which is why my savings were gone. And they affirmed that the supermarket always does the right thing,” Ms. Hai added.


With no other explanation, the supermarket staff blamed the loss of money on the cardholder's fault.

To verify, Ms. Hai split the payment into two consecutive invoices for many purchases. And as she predicted, the initial invoice reported that the amount of money saved on the card was there, but on the next invoice, the money "evaporated".

Two adjacent bills demonstrate the mysterious loss of money from the savings card.

“Every time I pay, the bill shows the amount of savings, but strangely, the next time the amount is 0 VND. When I complain, Big C staff will give me this or that reason to refuse,” said Ms. Hai.

Exposed, Big C secretly sent 99,000 VND to pay customer


Too upset about the strange loss of money while shopping at Big C supermarket, Ms. Hai went to Big C's Customer Service Department to complain, and was told by Ms. Le Thi Huong Giang, Head of Department: "We manage thousands of cards like this, errors are normal, if we check the error correctly, we will transfer money to your account to pay you."

The supermarket representative, Ms. Le Thi Huong Giang, Head of Customer Service Department, replied: "If you have ever worked in the BigC system, you will know that nothing is perfect."

Ms. Huong Giang also firmly affirmed: "If anyone has ever worked at the Big C supermarket system, they will know that nothing is perfect."

About a week after the comment, the amount of money that had "evaporated" from Ms. Hai's loyalty card was "suddenly" returned to her account by the supermarket as 99,000 VND.

Receiving the small amount of money, Ms. Hai was quite surprised. “Because compared to the total amount of payment slips from the day I made the card, the amount of 99,000 VND is only a fraction. What is worth mentioning is that when they sent it, they did not notify me at all,” Ms. Hai said.
