Plane carrying EU officials crashes, 5 dead
A light aircraft believed to be carrying EU officials crashed minutes after takeoff, killing five people. The incident occurred at Malta's Luqa International Airport on the afternoon of October 24.

The Times of Malta reported that the plane crashed near the runway and caught fire. The incident occurred at 7:20 a.m. (local time), or noon on October 24, Vietnam time. Times of Malta sources also confirmed that no one on board survived.
Mater Dei hospital staff and rescue workers were at the scene. All flights to and from Luqa airport were cancelled.
The plane that crashed was a Metroliner used by officials from the EU's border agency Frontex. According to initial information, the plane took off from Malta to fly to Libya.
