According to information posted on the website of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the Sukhoi Su-22 aircraft crashed in the southern province of Fars (Pha). The cause of the incident is still unknown.
Iran has suffered a number of plane crashes in recent years due to aging aircraft and lack of proper maintenance. Tehran bought Sukhoi fighter jets from Russia after the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
