Russian Su-25 aircraft named after pilot Roman Philipov who died in Syria
The Su-25 aircraft of the Eastern Military District's attack aircraft regiment based in Primorye was named in honor of the pilot who died in Syria, Hero of Russia Roman Philipov, said the head of the Pacific Fleet Air Forces press service, Captain Second Rank Nikolai Voskresensky.
"On March 24, at the airport of the Eastern Military District's attack aircraft regiment stationed in Primorye, a ceremony was held to name the Su-25SM aircraft after the Hero of Russia Roman Philipov. The pilot served in the unit for 10 years, and from here he went to Syria to carry out special missions," Voskresensky said.

According to Voskresensky, the naming ceremony held at the airport was attended by servicemen of the regiment and also held a meeting with Philipov's parents and widow.

On February 23, Russian President Vladimir Putin awarded the Golden Star of Hero of Russia to Roman Philipov's relatives.
On February 3, in Syria, a Russian Su-25 was shot down in an area controlled by militants. Pilot Roman Philipov ejected, but later died in an unequal battle with terrorists. By presidential order, he was awarded the title Hero of Russia.
