Plane grazes head, pilot escapes death
A pilot is lucky to survive after being severely grazed by a plane on the runway during a race in the US.
Pilot Thom Richard was preparing to take off during the national air racing championship in Reno, Nevada, on September 18, when the engine failed, the Telegraph reported.
He quickly hung up,opened the cockpit canopy and signaled to ground crew that he could not take off.However, three planes were waiting behind the pilot.Swededon't seem to understand
The camera of the carHot Stuff captured the heart-stopping moment showing Richard sittingIn the cockpit, an airplane came from behind at a speed of about 100 km/h.Its left wing hit Richard's plane hard,just a short distance from his head,made him dizzy.
"The impact was very strong and loud," he said, adding that he injured his right hand because he was opening the canopy at the time. "I consider myself very lucky. If it had moved another four feet to the left, I would have been a piece of meat."
Richard was then helped out of the cockpit by rescue workers and had his hand bandaged.
The collision withpieceHot Stuff also caused one of the other plane's landing gear wheels to come off and fly onto the runway. However, immediately after the incident, Richard and the pilot of this plane happily exchanged a hug.
