Planes and trains will increase services to accommodate passengers during the April 30th holiday.
Domestic airlines and railways have begun planning to increase flights to serve people traveling during the April 30th holiday. Many flights to tourist destinations on this day are nearly fully booked, and ticket prices have doubled compared to normal days.
Airlines increase flights and destinations, leading to higher ticket prices.
This year, civil servants and public employees will have 4 days off for the April 30th holiday, from April 30th to May 3rd. Due to the temporary easing of the Covid-19 pandemic, domestic airlines have recorded an increase in the number of passengers purchasing tickets to tourist destinations compared to normal days.

To meet the increased travel demand during the Hung Kings Commemoration Day and April 30th - May 1st holidays, Vietnam Airlines Group (including Vietnam Airlines, Pacific Airlines, and VASCO) will provide a total of nearly 750,000 seats, corresponding to nearly 4,000 flights on domestic and international routes during these two periods.
Specifically, during the Hung Kings Commemoration Day from April 8-12, Vietnam Airlines and VASCO provided nearly 1,400 flights with over 266,000 seats, a 10% increase compared to the Hung Kings Commemoration Day in 2019 - before the Covid-19 pandemic. Pacific Airlines operated nearly 200 flights with almost 37,000 seats, contributing to meeting the travel needs of passengers.
HolidayFrom April 30th to May 1st, Vietnam Airlines Group provided nearly 450,000 seats over the 7 days from April 28th to May 4th. Of these, Vietnam Airlines and VASCO operated over 2,000 flights with nearly 395,000 seats, a 10% increase compared to the same period in 2019. Meanwhile, Pacific Airlines provided over 270 flights, corresponding to nearly 51,000 seats.
“Vietnam Airlines Group is focusing on increasing capacity on domestic routes that are attracting tourists, connecting the two major cities of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City with popular tourist destinations such as Da Nang, Quy Nhon, Da Lat, Nha Trang, Phu Quoc, Con Dao... Diverse flight schedules with many flights at different times provide passengers with convenient and flexible travel options,” a representative of Vietnam Airlines said.
For international routes, following the government's full reopening of tourism on March 15th and to anticipate market demand during the two holiday periods, Vietnam Airlines increased flight frequencies across its entire regular international network, expanding its network with new routes such as Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City-Delhi (India), and routes connecting Singapore with Da Nang, Nha Trang, and Phu Quoc from April 15th, 2022.
Similarly, during the April 30th holiday, Bamboo Airways plans to increase flight frequencies to the maximum on key routes such as Hanoi - Da Nang, Hanoi - Quy Nhon, Hanoi - Cam Ranh, and Hanoi - Phu Quoc.
The airline is also actively developing its flight network to many countries. In addition to operating routes connecting with Japan, Taiwan (China), South Korea, Australia, Germany, and the UK, the airline has started selling tickets and plans to launch the Ho Chi Minh City - Singapore route from April 29th, Hanoi - Singapore from May 4th, and Ho Chi Minh City - Bangkok from April 28th.
According to a survey on ticket sales websites, round-trip flights from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to popular tourist destinations cost between 5-7 million VND, depending on flight times and ticket types, which is double the usual price.
A round-trip ticket from Hanoi to Phu Quoc on April 30th and back on May 3rd with Vietnam Airlines costs over 8 million VND; a round-trip ticket to Da Nang on the same day costs nearly 5 million VND.
Vietjet Air's round-trip airfare for the Hanoi - Nha Trang route from April 29th to May 3rd is 5-6 million VND; the round-trip fare for the Ho Chi Minh City - Nha Trang route on the same days is nearly 3 million VND.
Many Bamboo Airways flights from Hanoi to Con Dao on April 29-30 are fully booked or only have business class seats available, with economy class tickets priced at 8.4 million VND round trip.
Many passenger trains will resume service during the April 30th holiday.
The railway industry announced that it will resume passenger train services between Hanoi and Lao Cai during the April 30th and May 1st holidays to serve tourists traveling to Sapa.
Previously, Hanoi Railway Transport Joint Stock Company announced that the SP3/SP4 train service between Hanoi and Lao Cai would resume during the Hung Kings' Commemoration Day holiday after several months of suspension since 2021 due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. Train SP3 departed from Hanoi station on April 8th; Train SP4 departed from Lao Cai station on April 10th.
During this year's April 30th and May 1st holidays, the railway system is operating additional passenger trains from Hanoi to various provinces to meet the travel needs of passengers.
Specifically, the Hanoi - Dong Hoi route will operate trains QB1 and QB3 departing from Hanoi on April 29th; and train QB2 departing from Dong Hoi on May 2nd and 3rd, 2022.
The Hanoi - Hue route will have train SE17 departing from Hanoi on April 29th and train SE18 departing from Hue on May 2nd, 2022. The Hanoi - Da Nang route will have train SE19 departing from Hanoi on April 29th and train SE20 departing from Da Nang on May 2nd, 2022.
Additionally, on the Hanoi - Hai Phong route, from April 22nd to May 4th, trains HP1, LP3, LP5, LP7 will run daily from Hanoi (Long Bien) to Hai Phong, and trains HP2, LP2, LP6, LP8 will run from Hai Phong to Hanoi.
At the same time, the railway industry announced that it will resume the SE3/SE4 train service between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to meet the travel needs of people during the April 30th and May 1st holidays, after a period of shortened journey times.
Accordingly, for the Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi route, from April 25th to May 3rd, train SE4 departs Ho Chi Minh City at 8:10 PM, arrives at Da Nang station at 3:16 PM, and reaches Hanoi station at 8:21 AM.
From April 27th to May 5th, the SE3 train from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City departs from Hanoi station at 7:25 PM, arrives at Da Nang station at 12:21 PM, and reaches Ho Chi Minh City at 6:22 AM.
From April 5th, 2022, compared to the previous schedule, the SE3/SE4 train pair will add Tra Kieu station (Quang Nam) as a passenger pick-up and drop-off point. Train SE3 departs from Tra Kieu station at 13:03, and train SE4 departs at 14:08.
During this peak season, the railway continues to apply a policy of 5-10% discount on return tickets and discounts for social policy beneficiaries: Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, war invalids, the elderly, students, etc.
