No longer testing in warehouses or secretly practicing in deserted places, Mr. Bui Hien will take his homemade plane out for test flights at a military airport.

After a period of research and successfully building two planes named “Bui Hien” and “Giac Mo”, Mr. Bui Hien (63 years old, living in Binh Duong province) has been known to scientists both at home and abroad with the familiar name of “two rice” who builds planes. Of which, “Bui Hien” was built by him within 3 years (from 2010 to 2013), and “Giac Mo” was built within 2 years (from 2014 to 2016).
After completing each product, Mr. Bui Hien test flew them. While the “Bui Hien” was only tested in a warehouse at a height of about 1 meter above the ground, the “Dream” was flown by its creator at a height of 2 meters with spectacular hovering and turning exercises. However, Mr. Hien’s inventions only stopped there when the authorities did not grant a test flight permit.
Recently, in an interview with reporters at his workshop, “two-rice” Bui Hien shared a lot of new information related to the above-mentioned “children”. Mr. Hien said that he is improving his first aircraft, the “Bui Hien”, to bring it to the airport for a fair and open test flight.

Mr. Hien is describing the final design that he wants the “Bui Hien” aircraft to achieve. |
According to Mr. Hien, the “Dream” that was born later, although it flew higher and farther than the first product, the “Bui Hien”, was more difficult to fly. Therefore, he decided to take the “Bui Hien” plane out of the warehouse to improve it. With more experience and time flying this plane, Mr. Hien is confident that he can fly it higher than the “Dream” without having to spend more time practicing.
Regarding the new improvements on the “Bui Hien”, the Vietnamese “two-rice” aircraft maker said that the product has just been supplemented with a steering system, increasing the total weight to about 280kg compared to the previous 250kg. In addition, the aircraft’s wings have been renewed according to the coaxial design principle (2 propellers are located on the main shaft but rotate in opposite directions). The material used to make the propellers has also changed from stainless steel to aluminum.
“The “Dream” can fly, so now I’m going back to complete the “Bui Hien” and make it fly. My goal is to make it fly at the same size as the “Dream” or higher. After changing the propeller design to coaxial, it will be very easy to fly. Besides, I have tested the “Bui Hien” many times before, so I don’t need to practice anymore, once it’s done, it can fly right away,” Mr. Hien said.
To realize his dream of flying on a plane “made by Bui Hien”, Mr. Hien joined the Southern Aviation Club (under the 370th Air Division, Vietnam Air Defense - Air Force) and has a membership card. In the near future, he will complete the necessary procedures to bring the plane to the runway of Phu Loi airport (Thu Dau Mot city, Binh Duong province) for a test flight.
“Of course, to fly, I have to sign a flight safety commitment. The completed plane can fly hundreds of meters high, but according to regulations, I can only fly a maximum of 50 meters. I plan to hold the rope to test the plane at home, then take it to the airport for a test flight in 2017,” said Mr. Hien.
