The new generation Mazda2 compact car has just been introduced to the Vietnamese market by Thaco, available in both sedan and hatchback versions.

The sedan version measures 4,320 mm in length, 1,695 mm in width, and 1,470 mm in height. The 5-door hatchback version is 260 mm shorter and 30 mm taller than the sedan, while maintaining a similar width. The wheelbase of this model is 2,570 mm.

Similar to its "older siblings" Mazda3 and Mazda6, the exterior of the Mazda2 also respects the Kodo design language of the Japanese automaker. It can be said that the Mazda2 is essentially a smaller version of the Mazda3 in most exterior details.

The main drawback is the rather simple interior design, which doesn't quite match the modern exterior. However, the Mazda2 is equipped with a number of amenities and technologies, such as leather seats with integrated paddle shifters, push-button start, a 7-inch LCD touchscreen, a 6-speaker sound system with CD/MP3 player, and external device connectivity ports.

The car uses a 1.5-liter SkyActiv-G gasoline engine, producing a maximum power of 109 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 148 Nm at 4,000 rpm. It offers two transmission options: a 6-speed SkyActiv-Drive automatic or a 6-speed manual.

The vehicle's safety features include an anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic brake force distribution (EBD), emergency brake assist (BA), and electronic stability control (DSC)...

The Mazda2 is now available on the market with a retail price of 629 million VND for the sedan version and 679 million VND for the 5-door hatchback version. This retail price is considerably higher than its competitors currently on the market.

For example, the lowest-priced version of the Toyota Vios sells for 540 million VND, while the highest-priced version costs only 624 million VND; the Toyota Yaris E, a direct competitor to the Mazda2 hatchback, is also priced at only 633 million VND.

The Honda City manual transmission version is priced at 552 million VND, while the automatic transmission version costs only 599 million VND.

Similarly, another domestic competitor, the Nissan Sunny, is priced from only 483 million VND to 565 million VND depending on the version.

With such a significant difference in retail prices, it seems that the Mazda2 will face some difficulties in competing. It's worth noting that all three of its Japanese rivals mentioned above are currently very popular models on the market, especially the undisputed Toyota Vios.
