The new generation Mazda2 compact car has just been introduced to the Vietnamese market by Thaco with both sedan and hatchback versions.
The sedan version is 4,320 mm long, 1,695 mm wide and 1,470 mm high. The 5-door hatchback version is 260 mm shorter than the sedan, 30 mm higher while the width is the same. The wheelbase of this model is 2,570 mm.
Similar to its “seniors” Mazda3 and Mazda6, the exterior of the Mazda2 also respects the Japanese car company’s Kodo design language. It can be said that the Mazda2 is a miniature version of the Mazda3 in most exterior details.
The main drawback is that the interior design is quite simple and somewhat inconsistent with the modern appearance. In return, Mazda2 is equipped with many utilities and technologies such as leather seats with integrated gear shift paddles, push-button start, 7-inch LCD touch screen, 6-speaker sound system with integrated CD/MP3 player and peripheral device connection port.
The car uses a 1.5-liter SkyActiv-G gasoline engine, with a maximum capacity of 109 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 148 Nm at 4,000 rpm. The car has 2 transmission options: 6-speed automatic SkyActiv-Drive or 6-speed manual.
Safety equipment on the vehicle includes anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic brake force distribution (EBD), emergency brake assist (BA), electronic balance DSC...
Mazda2 is available on the market with a retail price of 629 million VND for the sedan version and 679 million VND for the 5-door hatchback version. This retail price is much higher than the current competitors on the market.
For example, the lowest version of Toyota Vios is sold for 540 million VND while the highest version is only 624 million VND; the Toyota Yaris E model that directly competes with the Mazda2 hatchback version is also only priced at 633 million VND.
The Honda City manual transmission model costs 552 million VND and the automatic transmission version costs only 599 million VND.
Or another domestic competitor, Nissan Sunny, is also priced from 483 million VND to 565 million VND depending on the version.
With such a difference in retail price, it seems that the Mazda2 will have some difficulty competing. Note that all three of the above Japanese competitors are quite popular models on the market, especially the "lonely and undefeated" Toyota Vios.
