Youngest MC of VTV, 1m53 tall, beautiful, many talents
From the first awkward times of "no one listened to her when she hosted", Phuong Thao has become a familiar MC on VTV.
There was a time when I was filming and I almost cried.
- You have been collaborating with VTV since your second year of university for 4 years now. How do you feel you have matured compared to the first day?
It has been 4 years since the first day on VTV, I feel that I have matured a lot. This maturity is not only felt by me but most importantly comes from the recognition of others, both colleagues and audiences.
Up to now, there are programs that I have been attached to for 4 years and recorded regularly such as "Every day a joy" VTV3. The audience has become more familiar with MC Phuong Thao, many people shared: "At 8 o'clock, I turn on the TV to watch Phuong Thao". In the first days of working, I was still confused, made many mistakes, sometimes people were afraid that "I look too young" and could not do the job.(laugh)But until now, my colleagues in the crew still often say "With Thao, I feel secure". That is my great happiness and motivation.
- BTV Ngoc Trinh once commented that you are a person who "has a way of leading that makes others follow you", do you think that is true?
This is what Ms. Trinh commented on when I won the championship of the Speak Up 2017 contest. To get this recognition, I also experienced many times speaking without anyone listening, but that's okay. I feel the most important thing is to be confident in what you are about to say. Because you have to believe in it, then the listener will believe in you.
-As a young person working with many experienced veterans, how did you feel the pressure when you first started hosting?
At first, I was under a lot of pressure. My first show was “Born from the Village” VTV6. I was invited to host the pilot right from the first episode without having to go through any rigorous selection round as I had imagined. It was lucky but also a big challenge. I was “scolded” many times by the editor and director for many different mistakes. Once while filming, I almost cried because I was disappointed in myself, but I still tried to control myself. After filming, I went outside to cry for a while, regained my composure and then continued working. Thinking back now, it still feels funny.
- Hosting VTV's experiential programs probably gives you the opportunity to experience many things in life. How meaningful do you think that is to your youth?
I get to go to places that few people know about, go up the mountain to herd horses, go down to the pond to catch fish, go down to the fields to plow, go into the forest to explore... do things that I never thought of, meet interesting people to learn more things. Many people tease me that "traveling for free". You don't know, traveling for free but you have to be very adventurous, besides guiding skills, you also need courage and dexterity. But it really makes my youth much more meaningful.
-In your profession, which MC - Editor impresses you the most and makes you want to learn from the most?
I don’t have a favorite. I learn a little from everyone I work with. Everyone is unique and talented.
- Not only is she a familiar MC on VTV, Phuong Thao is also a sought-after event MC. Why do you choose to work freelance instead of permanently?
I'm still young and still want to experience more things in many different fields, youth is about trying! Trying to a certain extent and then making a decision will be more correct.
Supporting yourself while still in school
- Have a certain position in your career, Phuong ThaoCan you disclose your monthly income?
My income was enough to make me independent in everything in my life since I was in college.
- You are still young but it can be said that you are quite successful in your career as an MC. Are you satisfied with what you have done?
I have never been satisfied, the more I know, the more people I meet in the profession, the more I feel so small.
- Phuong Thao has a very pretty and photogenic face, but is her height a limitation when appearing on camera?
My height is limited, but that's why I focus on improving my advantages such as face, knowledge and skills. Whether it's on TV shows or on stage at big events, my partners know that my height is only 1m53. But sometimes I'm still chosen because there are factors that are suitable for their program that a taller person may not have. I always try so that when I host, no one pays attention to my height anymore.(laugh).
-How do you plan to build your MC image in both the present and the future?
I want to be a colorful person. That's why I'm still trying my hand at many different fields. Over the years, the audience has become familiar with the charming image of Phuong Thao in VTV programs, but recently I have had a chance to host e-sports tournaments. Host games has made me discover many interesting things about myself, many new opportunities, gain many more fans and make me change my thinking that I "should only host this, only host that...".
- It seems that Phuong Thao is a girl with many talents, playing musical instruments and singing?
Piano and photography are also two of my hobbies in my free time. This makes my life more colorful and also becomes an advantage in my work.
- Do you have any advice for young people like yourself who want to seriously pursue a career as a professional MC?
Be proactive, seize opportunities and be willing to try what you want. There is a saying that I really like: “If we wait until everything is ready, we will never start.”
