(Baonghean.vn) - Following her husband's instructions, Lieu received money, documents, printed invitation letters... for 6 workers who wanted to go abroad. During the process, she had the help of her daughter-in-law. In the end, both mother-in-law and daughter-in-law appeared in court.

On March 3, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial of two defendants Doan Thi Lieu (born 1973) and Ngo Thi Hong Hanh (born 1995), both residing in Dien Nguyen commune, Dien Chau district, for the crime of "Organize for others to escape abroad”.

Although not licensed by a state agency to operate as a consultant, broker, recruiter, or send Vietnamese workers abroad, from October 2019 to November 23, 2019, Nguyen Van Tuan (born in 1972, residing in Dien Nguyen commune) consulted and promised to send 6 workers to New Zealand to work at a cost of 8,500 USD per person.

When the workers agreed, Tuan instructed his wife, Doan Thi Lieu, to receive more than 932 million VND from 6 workers. Lieu transferred the above amount to Tuan.

During the process of receiving the money, because Lieu was illiterate, he asked his daughter-in-law, Ngo Thi Hong Hanh, to write and sign the receipt.

Then, Tuan booked air tickets for the workers to Samoa (not New Zealand as promised) and contacted his wife to pay for the air tickets, received the job invitation letter via the Messenger application and printed it out for the workers. Lieu also asked his daughter-in-law to do this.

On November 23, 2019, Lieu hired a car to take 6 workers to the airport to go to Samoa. After staying there for a while, because Tuan could not arrange work, 2 workers asked to return home. Currently, the remaining 4 workers continue to stay in Samoa to look for work.

The investigation agency determined that Doan Thi Lieu knew that Tuan did not have the function of sending workers abroad, but she helped her husband receive money, documents, and print invitation letters for 6 workers...

Ngo Thi Hong Hanh is the daughter-in-law of Tuan and Lieu. Although they did not discuss it, when asked, Hanh helped Tuan and Lieu count the money, write a commitment letter...

In court, the two defendants stated that they had followed Tuan's instructions. They also stated that the workers had proactively contacted them and asked them to take them abroad.

Considering the case as a whole, the panel sentenced Doan Thi Lieu to 42 months in prison and defendant Ngo Thi Hong Hanh to 24 months in prison, with suspended sentences.

As for Nguyen Van Tuan, the investigation agency has issued a wanted warrant for this suspect.
