In 2008, after finishing 9th grade, Nguyen Thi Van (born in 1987) in Nam Son hamlet, Thanh Khai commune (Thanh Chuong) dropped out of school to work as a factory worker in Hanoi. She met and married Le Van Nghia, who worked at the same company. When it was time to give birth, in early August 2009, her husband took her to Thanh Cu commune, Thanh Ba district, Phu Tho province to give birth.

The joy and happiness of motherhood did not last long when Ms. Van was abandoned and abused by her husband. Although his wife had just given birth and was raising a small child, the beatings continued to fall on the young wife. Ms. Van was beaten so painfully and so often that her three brothers-in-law felt sorry for her and advised her to take her child and run away to her hometown. With the help of her brothers-in-law, in early 2010, she took her 3-month-old son, Le Hoang Hiep, back to Nghe An and asked her parents to take care of her. Feeling sorry for their children and grandchildren, Ms. Nguyen Dinh Vinh (born in 1957) and Ms. Phan Thi Hoa (born in 1962) had to arrange for the mother and son to live in a corner of a cramped 3-room house with more than 10 people.

In 2013, Ms. Van registered to work in Malaysia, working at an electronics company with a salary of 5 million VND/month. In February 2016, she went to Malaysia for the second time according to the extension schedule, but in April 2016, she had a work accident and died later. After their daughter died, Mr. and Mrs. Vinh called their son-in-law to inform him and ask for his opinion on raising Nguyen Hoang Hiep. But the treacherous father only made promises and then disappeared without a trace.

Mr. Vinh and his wife have 4 children, but one of them works far away, the other has a difficult economic situation, has to rent a house, life is difficult so they do not have the conditions to support them. Mrs. Hoa has a leaky heart valve, has to go to the hospital many times for emergency treatment, was assigned to have heart surgery but she asked to be discharged from the hospital to go home because she had no money. Mr. Vinh is also often sick due to a serious vestibular disease, sometimes faints in the field and has to ask the neighbors to help him home. Since his daughter passed away, the Company has contacted to complete the compensation procedures but until now the family has not received that amount. Pitying their short-lived daughter, Mr. Nghia and his wife built a small altar in the garden to burn incense for their daughter.

Le Hoang Hiep is currently in grade 3 at Thanh Khai Primary School. Although his mother is dead, he still has his biological father, so he has not received any benefits. Knowing that he is old and sick, Mr. Vinh and his wife have tried many times to contact his father to ask him to take responsibility for his son, but have been unable to contact him.

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Nga - head of Nam Son hamlet said: Mr. Vinh's family situation is very difficult, Hiep is an orphan and does not receive care from his father, very pitiful. His grandparents are getting older and weaker, how will Hiep live from now on? I really hope that in the future he will receive social protection to help his grandparents and so he can continue his education.
