Mother called someone to come to her house to steal her daughter's car.

Needing money to gamble, Ms. Hoa called someone to her daughter's house in Binh Tan district (HCMC), drove her daughter's car to pawn it, and then fled for a year.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa (67 years old) has just been tried by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Court for theft of property. As the victim in the case, Ms. Bich did not show much emotion when seeing her mother sitting silently in the dock.

Three years ago, Ms. Hoa was picked up by her only daughter from Tay Ninh to live with her in Binh Tan district. When Ms. Bich took her son to Singapore to visit her husband, the old woman pawned her scooter for 10 million VND to gamble.

Ms. Bich's car was valued at 750 million VND, so Ms. Hoa was prosecuted for the crime of theft of property with a maximum penalty of 12 years to life in prison.

Presenting to the court, Ms. Bich saidfiled a complaint against his mother and did not request compensation."I bought the car when it was old and used it for many years before I died. The authorities valued it at 750 million VND, which is too high. This affects my mother's sentence. I hope the jury will consider it," she said.

Defending Ms. Hoa, the lawyer said that the defendant was old and did not know how to drive a car, so she could not have pawned the car. Several witnesses summoned to court also confirmed that Vo Van Tu was the one who entered the house and drove the car away.
