Mother was bedridden when she heard the news of her son's accident.
Present at the family of Tran Nguyen Chuong (Hamlet 5, Hung Xuan Commune, Hung Nguyen) on the afternoon of April 10, relatives and neighbors were waiting for the body to be brought back from Cua Lo beach in a mournful atmosphere.
Mr. Nguyen Duy Vu, Party Secretary of Hamlet 5, said: Chuong is the youngest of three children, his parents are farmers. Every day, in the morning he goes to school, in the afternoon he goes to the fields to catch eels, earning money to support his family. He earns 150,000 - 200,000 VND each night from catching more than 100 eel traps. At noon on April 9, people still saw Chuong playing with his friends in the alley, but in the afternoon they heard the sad news. Many people in the hamlet could not believe that Chuong had passed away.
Hearing the news of her son's accident, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Binh cried until her eyes were dry and she was bedridden since she heard the news. Her two brothers worked far away, and Chuong was very close to their mother at home, telling her everything. On the afternoon of the incident, when she heard Chuong say he was going out with his class, she never expected the pain to come to her like this. In the middle room of the house, villagers were on duty to comfort Mrs. Binh. In the yard, everyone was preparing to receive Chuong's body from the sea.

In the same mournful atmosphere, at Tran Van Thanh's house (Hamlet 6, Hung Thong Commune, Hung Nguyen), the crying and screaming of Mrs. Nguyen Thi Soa (Thanh's mother) made those present feel even more heartbroken. A relative of Thanh said: Thanh is the eldest child in a farming family with 2 brothers, obedient, good at studying, emotional, loved by everyone. Since the accident, the family, relatives and friends in the countryside as well as at Cua Lo beach have been anxiously waiting every hour, every minute, hoping to find the bodies of the children.
A parent of a 12th grade student at Le Hong Phong High School came to express condolences to Ms. Soa's family: "I am so sad to hear that my children had an accident. I just hope that my children will be found soon and brought back to their families and hometowns. Other parents should strictly discipline their children and not encourage them to take graduation photos in rivers and at sea. They should even stop the association and contract to take graduation photos far away for students."
Friends, teachers and the pain of graduation season
Upon hearing the news that a 12A6 class student had an accident at Cua Lo beach, teachers and students of Le Hong Phong High School were shocked and heartbroken. Tran Thai Bao, class monitor of 12A6, recounted: The school board and the homeroom teacher had instructed that they were not allowed to go far to take yearbook photos. But on the afternoon of April 9, after taking photos in the school yard and artificial field in Nam Cat commune, some students were whispering about going to the beach to take more photos. The whole class was excited and joined in.
At the beach, the photographers reminded and prevented us from swimming. But many of us still wanted to swim, 10 of us separated from our class and went far away. When the incident happened, 5 of us were swept away by the waves. But only The, Nhan and An were saved. Thanh and Chuong were completely submerged and could not be saved.

The school has sent groups of teachers to take turns on duty at sea to participate in the search for the children. We wish for nothing more than to bring the children back to their families soon.”
