"Command" from the heart
(Baonghean) - The medical staff we met are all precious and respectable: They are always dedicated to their profession and to their patients. Each person has a different job, but they share the same thought: "A doctor must not only be good at his profession but also have a heart, have virtue, and treat patients like his relatives." This comes from the "command" of the heart. Standing outside of the honors, they quietly shine in their work...
The mind of a physician...
At Vinh City General Hospital, for a long time, Head Nurse of the Examination Department Pham Thi Huong has been a shining example of dedication to work, respected by colleagues and loved by patients. With elderly patients, Ms. Huong is like a filial daughter, with younger patients, she becomes a tolerant sister and mother. Ms. Pham Thi Huong's spirit and attitude towards patients is like a pain reliever that soothes illness, creating comfort for patients when they come to the department for examination. Ms. Bui Thi Suu (66 years old) in Trung Do ward, Vinh City, a patient who regularly comes to the hospital, commented: When I meet Ms. Huong, I feel very comfortable because she is enthusiastic, serves patients well, and is always cheerful and open-minded. There are elderly, difficult patients who are sometimes irritable for no reason, but Ms. Huong is still gentle and treats and cares for them wholeheartedly, which makes us very touched. Even though we are sick and have to go to the hospital, we always feel secure and confident because this place has "doctors like mothers" who are devoted to the sick like Ms. Huong.

Sharing about the "secret" to creating trust and love from patients, Ms. Pham Thi Huong shared: Medical staff have the mission of caring for and protecting people's health, so I always do my best to serve patients; always remember Uncle Ho's teaching "A doctor not only has the duty to cure diseases but also to support the spirit of the sick" to remind myself and my colleagues to be dedicated to the profession... Ms. Huong herself always tries to live and work according to that wish, always spends time to be close to, encourage and share with colleagues, actively visits and encourages patients and their families, so she always receives a lot of love from everyone. Doctor Nguyen Hong Truong, Deputy Director of Vinh City General Hospital said: "Ms. Pham Thi Huong is always exemplary in all movements, has passed on the "flame" of responsibility and solidarity to colleagues and those around her. Especially, Ms. Huong is always dedicated to patients and is loved by them".
Dedicated to the sick
Ms. Nguyen Thi Sen - a nurse at Nghe An Mental Hospital has devoted almost her entire life to taking care of patients. At 50 years old and 32 years of experience, Ms. Sen has worked in the Acute Department for Men for 15 years. She said: When she first started working, she was very scared because the patients were "abnormal". But when she overcame the "psychological barrier", she realized that they were pitiful people, deserving of attention, care, and love. Every day, in addition to treating patients, Ms. Sen also takes care of and serves patients, helping those who cannot eat, drink, or do personal hygiene.

Ms. Sen did not tell, but her colleagues are still haunted by an occupational accident she encountered 4 years ago. In 2011, there was a male patient, from Nghia Dan, who suffered from severe epilepsy and was hospitalized many times. That day, Ms. Sen was on duty on Sunday, so there were not many staff in the department. After getting rice and sharing it with the patient, Ms. Sen went to the room to check on the patient's condition. At this time, the patient was severely agitated and Ms. Sen was beaten by this patient and fell into a coma for a week. The hospital concluded that she had a traumatic brain injury, affecting 25% of her health. After a period of treatment, her health improved, but Ms. Sen was paralyzed on the left side of her body, her arms and legs gradually weakened due to the brain damage. This condition affects her to this day: her husband has to drive her around, pick her up and drop her off, and her pronunciation is not standard... Her health is stable, Ms. Sen continues to work at the Mental Hospital. She confided: “I cannot turn my back on my profession because of an accident. Deep down, I always cherish the job I am doing. Although the job is hard and dangerous, every time I see a patient recover and leave the hospital, I feel happy. The patients being cured is the motivation that helps me overcome the difficulties and hardships of a special profession.”
After the accident, Ms. Sen's health deteriorated so the hospital transferred her to the traditional medicine department. Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong, Head Nurse, Traditional Medicine Department, Nghe An Mental Hospital said: "Ms. Sen is a devoted person to her patients, taking care of them very carefully and meticulously. For the younger generation, she always gives careful instructions and shares valuable experiences with them. During her 32 years of work, every year Ms. Sen has achieved the title of outstanding advanced worker of the hospital."
Silent dedication

Nurse Dang Thi Thanh works at the Emergency Resuscitation Department - Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital. |
Standing outside of honors, votes or simply recognition, but the nurses at the hospital never feel inferior or self-conscious. They work day and night with nameless, very ordinary but no less noble jobs, quietly contributing their efforts to the cause of general health care. Nurse Dang Thi Thanh, Department of Anesthesia - Resuscitation, Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital is such a person... Ms. Thanh's working day starts at dawn: collecting trash, separating it into household and medical waste, taking it to the garbage disposal behind the hospital and cleaning the operating room area. Next, she receives the fabrics and surgical instruments sent for sterilization from the day before; sorts and puts them in ready positions for the day's surgeries; cleans the hallway where pediatric patients are admitted for surgery, then the restroom. When the surgery is over, she continues to collect dirty clothes to sort, clean, send for sterilization; cleans the operating table and brings in clean instruments to serve the next surgeries.
Ms. Thanh has been working as a nurse at the Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital for nearly 30 years. The salary is not much, the job is full of sadness, but she finds joy in life from her children, family and the understanding and sympathy of her colleagues.
